Centec Networks Showcases Successful Deployment of OpenFlow 1.3 at ONF PlugFest

SUZHOU, China, June 25, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Centec Networks, a leading innovator of IP/Ethernet switching silicon and advanced turnkey system solutions, today announced that its V Series Open SDN platform completed successful interoperability testing of OpenFlow™ 1.3 on leading SDN controllers and switches from vendor companies at the Open Networking Foundation's (ONF) third PlugFest event held at Indiana University's InCNTRE lab.

The third ONF PlugFest event attracted leading SDN controller and switch vendors including NEC, IBM, and HP to participate in interoperability testing of the OpenFlow protocol for service provider, data center, and enterprise networks. Centec's V Series Open SDN platform took part in both OpenFlow1.0 and OpenFlow1.3 test beds and showed complete interoperability with all of the SDN controllers and other vendors' OpenFlow switches. It also demonstrated superb flow metering, MPLS, and queuing capabilities per latest OpenFlow 1.3 specification and ONF's OF-Configuration protocol for the configuration management of OpenFlow switches.

Centec's V Series Open SDN platform recently won the first SDN Idol award at the Open Networking Summit this April. It adopts industry leading OpenvSwitch (OVS) as the OpenFlow protocol stack enhanced with Centec's extensions to support OpenFlow 1.3 specification and OpenFlow-Configuration. Centec plans to release the new member of V series Open SDN platform V350 in Q3, which utilizes Centec's new SDN optimized switching silicon CTC5163 (GreatBelt) featuring Centec's innovative N-Flow technology for large number of flow and native OpenFlow1.3 support. It was joint developed with Taiwanese leading switch ODM Company to leverage their mature hardware platform and advanced manufacturing capability to further accelerate adoption of SDN and OpenFlow with the most cost-efficient turnkey solutions.

"The broad turnout for implementing OpenFlow 1.3, specifically using merchant silicon, at the PlugFest demonstrated growth in deployment of OpenFlow-based SDN," said Dan Pitt, executive director of the Open Networking Foundation. "The successful interoperability testing of OpenFlow 1.3 on hardware switches and controllers is a significant step towards offering our end users interoperable products for accelerated adoption of the OpenFlow protocol and SDN."

"As an upstart Ethernet switching silicon/turnkey solution vendor and a pioneer in SDN and the OpenFlow protocol development in China, Centec continues its SDN innovation in silicon and turnkey system that are widely interoperable with other industry leading SDN solutions," said Tao Gu, vice president of business development at Centec Networks. "Centec's V Series Open SDN platform offers the cost effectiveness of traditional Ethernet switches and complete openness to the SDN ecosystem. By partnering with leading switch ODM vendors, we are fueling the SDN revolution by allowing telecom/network equipment vendors to build the most cost-effective SDN platforms with dramatically reduced development costs and rapidly improved time-to-market."
