TAIPEI, , April 4, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Gorilla Technology Inc.'s tapeless workflow platform for the broadcasting and media industry -- Gorilla Silverback -- is currently managing 1 petabyte (PB) of audio-video data for National Geographic Channels International's (NGCI) US business.

Starting 3.5 years ago managing approximately 30 terabytes (TB) of data, NGCI's version of Gorilla Silverback has expanded to manage a digital archive reaching 1000 TB of data. Gorilla provides a media asset management (MAM) solution for NGCI's digital media operations.

"As a distributor of premium quality programming world-wide, National Geographic Channels International has seen rapid growth in the content under our management," said Martie Kretchmar, Vice President of Network Operations for NGCI. "Gorilla Silverback's media asset management system has offered the flexibility to scale according to our needs, ensuring we are able to continue delivering new content to our existing markets and across new countries and regions."

Gorilla has years of experience handling large volumes of content, with a customer in the middle-east requiring the management of several petabytes of data already.

Gorilla has been providing business-centric technology solutions to NGCI since 2007, with its first project involving the launch of the Nat Geo Music Channel in Italy. NGCI is a joint venture between National Geographic and the Fox Entertainment Group.

According to Dr Spincer Koh, CEO of Gorilla Technology Group, "We are happy to see National Geographic Channels International reach this remarkable milestone in content management. It says something about the robustness of our solution design, and strength of our technology, that NGCI has been able to grow so quickly, while continuing to maximize the value of their media assets."

Gorilla Silverback is an end-to-end tapeless workflow platform for managing video content lifecycles, including ingestion, quality control, metadata management, archiving, production collaboration, content repurposing, and delivery.

At the annual NAB show in Las Vegas starting 8 April, Gorilla will showcase its latest tapeless workflow solutions for the broadcast and media industry, including a media operations and control system for managing global production facilities, a new repurposing platform for multi-site multi-vendor non-linear editing environments, and a range of hybrid cloud services for managing and monetizing content more effectively.

Gorilla will be appearing at NAB 2013, April 8-11, booth number N3739, Las Vegas Convention Center. A special Business Briefings session will be held on Monday 8 April, showcasing Gorilla's solution partnerships with Cisco, CloudSigma and EMC Isilon.
