SHANGHAI, Dec. 1 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- Corning Cable Systems (Shanghai) Co. Ltd., a subsidiary of Corning Incorporated (NYSE: GLW), is pleased to announce volume production of the newest addition to its industry-leading OptiSnap(TM) Field-Installable Connectors. The enhanced version of the SC OptiSnap Connector now provides simple and reliable direct single-fiber termination on "Bow type" or Pi Xian cable with unique shroud and strain relief components.

The SC OptiSnap Connector for "Bow type" cable provides three significant advantages for fiber-to-the-x (FTTx) installations. First, the cam feature is "re-doable," which enables installers to overcome minor problems during connector installation and minimize connector scrap. Second, the unique strain relief design ensures very high tensile strength. Finally, the OptiSnap product suite includes the Corning CTS installation tool with the unique go/no-go feature. This feature ensures connector continuity and improves the installation yield.

"As fiber to the home (FTTH) continues to grow in popularity here in China, we see increased demand for fast, reliable, high-quality, field-installable connectors," said Doug Harshbarger, vice president of marketing, Corning Greater China Telecom. "Our OptiSnap Connector products are so popular globally because they help installers gain expertise very quickly. Scrap is not a problem with these products."

OptiSnap Connectors comply with the insertion loss and return loss of industrial requirements for the operating temperature of -40 to 75 degrees Celsius, which allows the connectors to be used inside the outdoor hardware. This connector provides a typical insertion loss of 0.2 dB for UPC and 0.4 dB for APC connectors. The "Bow type" SC OptiSnap and CTS installation tool are now available in the Greater China region.

Corning Cable Systems' field-installable connectors were developed in 1993. After more than 15 years, 45 million field-installable connectors have been deployed worldwide, helping Corning Cable Systems become an industry leader of no-epoxy/no-polish field-installable connectors.
