61% of Chinese plan to shop online during Cyber Monday Week versus 43% of Americans

eCoupons.com announced today that more consumers in China will shop online on Cyber Monday than in the U.S., UK, Germany and Japan. According to a new eCoupons.com/Ipsos global survey, 22% of Chinese plan to shop online on November 29 versus 17% in the U.S. Cyber Monday, one of the busiest shopping days of the year, is the Monday after Black Friday where retailers offer big discounts online. During Cyber Monday week, from November 29 to December 6, 61% of Chinese plan to shop online versus 45% in the UK, 43% in the U.S., 37% in Germany and 34% in Japan. In the U.S. almost half of 18-49 year olds (47%), as well as those with an income higher than the average (48%) plan to shop during Cyber Monday week. In comparison, in China, nearly two-thirds of adults aged 18-49 (60%) and those with an income higher than the average (64%) plan to shop online during Cyber Monday week.
This year, Cyber Monday will compete against last week's "Cyber Black Friday" sales. Black Friday is the retail frenzy in the U.S. where stores offer money losing sales to lure holiday shoppers. For example, U.S. department store Target advertised a $3 appliance for its Black Friday sale. To compete, online retailers launched Black Friday online sales creating "Cyber Black Friday". For the first time, Amazon held "Black Friday" sales in the U.S., UK and Canada. Amazon is promoting Cyber Monday sales in U.S., Canada and Germany on November 29. comScore reported that U.S. Black Friday 2010 online sales jumped 9% to $648M.
