Cyberport Urges Employers Offer More Intern Vacancies

HONG KONG, March 24 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- Cyberport's implemented IT Internship and Exchange Programmes of 2009 are now open for applications. Sponsored by the Office of the Government Chief Information Officer (OGCIO), subsidize for the Internship Programmes has been increased by 23 percent, sponsoring now up to 32 intern placements, with each intern subsidized up to $4,000 per month with regards of the hardship of small-and-medium enterprise under the ongoing global financial turmoil.

"Our ultimate objective is to attract more potential partners to create more job opportunities for the young graduates." Mr. Nicholas Yang, CEO, Hong Kong Cyberport Management Company Limited said during the ceremony in the luncheon of Digital Entertainment Leadership Forum (DELF 2009).

Paying tribute to those supporting companies and universities, as well as announcing the launch of the new "I.T. Internship Co-ordination & Facilitation Programme" and "I.T. Exchange Programme", Hong Kong Cyberport Management Company Limited (Cyberport) organizes an event named "I.T. and Digital Media Workforce Development Commendation and New Programmes Launching Ceremony" today (24 Mar) under the full support of the Office of the Government Chief Information Officer (OGCIO) during the DELF's luncheon.

"Consistent with the new government policy to build a creative economy, Cyberport will continue its effort in executing the IT Internship and Exchange Programmes to nurture new young talents. We have also added the "industry mentorship programmes" to line up business leaders to help sharpen the interns on their professional skills and capability, and broaden their business and entrepreneurial perspectives." Mr. Yang added.

After Mr. Nicholas Yang gives a welcome remarks and overview on the efforts and contributions of I.T. and digital media workforce development of Cyberport, together with representatives come from universities and companies, he officiates launching of new programmes of I.T. Internship and Exchange Programmes of 2009. DELF'S speakers present certificates of appreciation to all those supporting companies and universities of last year.

Coping with one of Cyberport's public missions on the I.T. and digital media workforce development, Cyberport have provided 74 subsidized intern placements, offered by 45 I.T., digital media and digital content companies or organizations. For the Exchange Programmes, in 2008, 46 students from 5 local universities were subsidized to exchange with 31 overseas institutes and companies of seven countries around the globe.

Internship Co-ordination & Facilitation Programme 2009 / 10", which provides on-job skill training opportunities for local fresh graduates and undergraduates for 6 to 12 months, has expanded up to 32 sponsored intern places for a maximum of monthly HK$4,000 sponsorship on each placement and companies can use our online facility, http://www.internslink.hk/ for FREE job posting. Registered Hong Kong I.T. and digital media companies are welcome to apply.

"I.T. Internship Co-ordination & Facilitation Programme" provides on-job skill training opportunities for local fresh graduates and undergraduates as well as aims at reinforcing the attitude of taking I.T. as a study discipline and a lifelong career.

For the "I.T. Exchange Programme in Academic Year 2008 / 09", the amount of sponsorship of each exchange programme reaches a maximum of HK$70,400 with a total of 15 sponsored programmes. Also, apart from local tertiary institutes offering degree-award programmes, those offering high diploma or above programmes accredited by the Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic & Vocational Qualifications (HKCAAVQ) can also apply.

"I.T. Exchange Programme" is a short term overseas student exchange sponsorship scheme designed for undergraduates of local universities that aims at enhancing their I.T. competence through participation of overseas visits and projects so as to get international exposure and improve foreign language proficiency.
