2016-03-31 21:35 3094

CHONGQING, China, March 31, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Chinese B2B cross-border e-commerce marketplace DHgate.com launched a Turkish language version of their website in a special ceremony, to mark the initiation of the terms of the first ever e-commerce bilateral trade MOU, between China and Turkey.

The MOU was signed at the G20 summit in Antalya, Turkey in November 2015, witnessed by both President Xi Jinping of China and President Recep Tayyip Erdoan of Turkey. The agreement was facilitated by DHgate.com in partnership with Turkish organization the World SME Forum. This agreement officially inaugurates the online channel of China's "One Belt One Road Initiative."

'CHINA TURKEY TRADE AND THE MOU'

China and Turkey's trade went from USD 1 billion in 2000 to USD 2.77 billion in 2014, and both nations are looking to increase that growth by embracing new innovative business models. The overall goal of this historic trade agreement is to enable Turkish and Chinese SMEs (small and medium enterprises) to access each other's markets by selling goods through e-commerce.

Under the agreement, SMEs will not only be able to sell their goods, but be able to display their products offline in display centers in the opposite country, utilize online logistics, receive Turkish and Chinese language customer service, and cross-border e-commerce training.

Chongqing is the city designated by the Chinese government as the base of operations for this agreement, and will host the product display centers. The agreement with Turkey is only the beginning and will serve as an example for further agreements. DHgate.com founder and CEO Diane Wang said, "There will be more countries signing similar agreements in 2016."

'THE ONLINE SILK ROAD'

The One Belt One Road Initiative is a development strategy and framework, proposed by the People's Republic of China, which focuses on connectivity and cooperation between countries along the ancient Silk Road. The initiative includes a land route, a maritime route and an online channel named the Online Silk Road.
