Customer prototypes of the Spicer TZL16 transmission -- engineered for ZL50 front-end loaders - are available now for testing by OEMs, with production at the Dana facility in Wuxi, Jiangsu Province, scheduled to begin in the third quarter of 2011. An enhanced TZL18 version designed for ZL60 front-end loaders is expected shortly afterward.

"The front-end loader is the workhorse driving construction projects and economic progress throughout China, and Chinese OEMs have leveraged their substantial expertise in engineering and production to offer premium models for domestic and export consumption," said Mark Schneider, managing director of Dana Off-Highway Systems - China. "The Spicer TZL series of transmissions has been specially designed to supply superior front-end loaders with higher horsepower capability, reduced maintenance, and smoother, quieter operation."

With an expected rating of 150 to 180 kW (200 to 245 horsepower) and a 555-mm drop, the Spicer TZL16 is a new four-speed transmission platform that uses proven internal components from the extensive line of Spicer powershift transmissions already available for the off-highway market.

The Spicer TZL16 transmission includes forward and reverse clutches with high-energy capacities, adaptive clutch modulation, and helical gears to deliver a robust transmission with improved shift quality. It also features two 400-Nm (295 ft-lb) SAE "C" pump drives with a variable pump ratio, and wider, 240-mm pump spacing, which enables OEMs to take advantage of optimum displacement system pumps and hydraulic plumbing.

Dana is exhibiting a Spicer TZL Series transmission in Hall E5, Stand 528, at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre through Nov. 26.
