AARHUS, Denmark, June 27, 2014 /PRNewswire/ --

Unisense FertiliTech, world leader in time-lapse technology for IVF will present a new tool to improve embryo evaluation in IVF.  The KIDScore™ decision support tool is an exclusive feature of the EmbryoScope™ time-lapse system and is based on analysis of the largest database in the world of Known Implantation Data (KID). The KID database contains comprehensive information about embryo development profiles linked to pregnancy and live birth and is an extremely useful source of information for developing tools for evaluating embryo implantation potential. The first product in the range, KIDScore™ D3 Basic model for supporting embryo evaluation on day 3 will be presented at the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology (ESHRE) in Munich June 29 to July 2 2014.

Niels Birger Ramsing, Chief Scientific Officer at Unisense FertiliTech states, "We have been pleased to work closely with embryologists around the world who have contributed to the database." He further states, "What became clear early on, is that although there are morphokinetic variables which appear to be linked to implantation, the optimum intervals and timings as well as the key variables appear to vary between clinics. This means that development of a universal model to identify the highest potential embryos has been a big challenge even with access to large amounts of clinical outcome data."

Recent analysis of Known Implantation Data (KID) data by Unisense FertiliTech has revealed that there are clear morphokinetic features of human embryos, which correlate with a very low implantation potential. Models based on these universal features can be applied by a wide range of clinics. Starting from 17,500 KID embryos, a subset of 3,300 KID embryos were used to create a basic kinetic model for day 3 embryo transfers which allows IVF professionals to avoid transferring embryos with a low chance of becoming a baby. This model, used in conjunction with morphology will allow IVF practitioners to better refine their embryo selection choice.

Embryologist Dr. Markus Montag says, "We still believe that the best results will be obtained when clinics can customize their protocols according to their own data results.  However, use of these new models which allow clinics to use time-lapse information to improve embryo evaluation without a priori knowledge in a responsible manner is an exciting development."

Unisense FertiliTech who celebrates 11 years in developing innovative technologies to improve embryo selection in the IVF laboratory has developed and manufactures the EmbryoScope™ time-lapse system.  The system was cleared for clinical use in Europe in 2009 and it is FDA cleared for clinical use in the USA.  The technology is used in routine clinical practice in 46 countries and has been used in approximately 180,000 treatment cycles.

KIDScore™ decision support tool will be available to clinics in the EU in the early fall. It is not yet FDA cleared for clinical use in USA.
