HONG KONG, Aug. 1, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts is unveiling two Shangri-La hotels in mainland China this month, increasing its greater China portfolio to 43 hotels.  Shangri-La Hotel, Qufu opens today in the historical hometown of Confucius, while Shangri-La Hotel, Shenyang will debut on 15 August 2013 in Shenyang, the largest city in Northeast China and an important industrial base.

To celebrate the openings, both hotels are introducing special offers that will be available until 31 December 2013.

Valid from 1 August 2013, Shangri-La Hotel, Qufu's special offer starts from RMB788 per night for a Deluxe/River View Room and includes complimentary buffet breakfast for one person at the hotel's all-day dining restaurant, 15 per cent off on laundry, themed welcome amenities and late check-out until 3 p.m.

Shangri-La Hotel, Qufu, the city's first international luxury hotel, pays homage to Confucius, the famous Chinese philosopher, in proximity as well as in design.

Blending Confucian principles, Chinese traditions and contemporary style, the hotel's design reflects Qufu's history with a modern aesthetic. Traditional Chinese architecture sets the tone, with the hotel's facade designed to resemble a Chinese pavilion and roofs topped with grey tiers of flying eaves.  The hotel's interior design concept expresses the three key principles of Confucian philosophy -- order, harmony and hierarchy -- and is based on Confucius' "Six Arts", which include the disciplines of Rites, Music, Archery, Chariot Racing, Calligraphy and Mathematics.

Among the opened 211 spacious guestrooms, the rooms and suites facing the Yi River are designed with balconies offering views of the old city wall, palaces of the Temple of Confucius and the hotel's traditional Chinese landscaped garden dotted with pavilions.

The hotel's food and beverage facilities include Shangri-La's signature Shang Palace Chinese restaurant serving authentic Cantonese, Shandong regional Lu and re-imagined Kong (Confucius) Family cuisines; Cafe Kong, an all-day casual dining venue featuring international dishes; and the Lobby Lounge with its extensive tea menu. Other venues include a 1,600-square-metre pillar-free Grand Ballroom with an outdoor terrace connected to the 680-square-metre ballroom foyer and seven additional function rooms.

Situated in the city centre, Shangri-La Hotel, Qufu is within walking distance to the Temple of Confucius, the Mansion of Confucius and the Cemetery of Confucius, which are UNESCO World Heritage Cultural Sites. Qufu, one of China's 24 government-designated historical and cultural cities, is only two hours from Beijing and three hours from Shanghai by high-speed rail, making it a convenient cultural excursion from either city.

Shangri-La Hotel, Shenyang is Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts' second property in the capital of Liaoning Province in Northeast China, joining Traders Hotel, Shenyang. Shenyang is the largest city in the northeast and an economic powerhouse. A major industrial centre, it serves as the transportation and commercial hub of Northeast China, with connections to Japan, Russia and Korea.

Shenyang is also home to the only other existing royal palace in mainland China after the Forbidden City in Beijing. Drawing inspiration from Shenyang's Imperial Palace, Shangri-La Hotel, Shenyang features 424 guestrooms offering panoramic city views and Shangri-La's signature amenities, including complimentary high-speed broadband Internet and Wi-Fi. Shangri-La's signature Horizon Club guestrooms occupy the top five floors of the building. The exclusive Horizon Club Lounge on the 30th floor offers city views from nearly floor-to-ceiling window and exclusive privileges, including complimentary breakfast, all-day refreshments and evening cocktails, and free use of the lounge's meeting room for two hours per day.

The hotel is designed to cater to all types of meetings and events with 4,115 square metres of meeting space spread over two floors. The main 1,900-square-metre pillarless ballroom boasts a nine-metre-high ceiling and 600-square-metre pre-function area with floor-to-ceiling-windows offering views of the lush Qing Nian Park and the hotel's landscaped garden. It is the largest hotel ballroom in Northeast China. The grand ballroom is complemented by a 566-square-metre ballroom and seven function rooms. All of the function rooms on Level 4 enjoy natural light and city views featuring Shenyang's iconic TV tower, and one is connected to a 3,015-square-metre garden terrace.

Hotel restaurants include the top-floor Shinsen, the all-day dining restaurant Cafe Liao, and Summer Palace. Other facilities include CHI, The Spa with nine luxurious private suites, a rooftop tennis court, fitness centre, 25-metre indoor heated swimming pool, Jacuzzi, sauna and steam bath.

Located on Qingnian Avenue (dubbed the "Golden Corridor") in Shenhe District, the hotel is situated within walking distance to the city's prime shopping and entertainment area and is close to city government, consulate offices and exhibition centres. It is a 30-minute drive to the airport and 20 minutes to the city's two major train stations, which connect Shenyang by express trains to key cities.
