EcoNet Enables High Performance FTTdp Solutions with Integrated VDSL2 and PON Technologies

HSINCHU, Dec. 11, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- EcoNet (HK) Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of MediaTek Inc. and a leader in semiconductor solutions for fixed line broadband communications, today announced a high performance FTTdp (Fiber-to-the-Distribution Point) platform to allow up to 310Mbps aggregate data rate up to a distance of 200 meters by leveraging EcoNet's superior performance of VDSL2 and PON access technologies.

FTTdp is a revolutionary fiber/copper hybrid approach. Fiber arrives to the basement of the building or to the door of a subscriber's house and VDSL2 is used over the existing copper pairs, which could be more cost-effective than deploying FTTP/FTTH. FTTdp functions as a media converter, terminating a PON fiber access line at the neighborhood distribution point and connecting to a standards-based VDSL2 gateway in the subscriber's residence.

"As subscribers increasingly expect advanced triple-play services from service providers, EcoNet had dedicated to developing high performance VDSL2 and PON access products. As a result of collective efforts, EcoNet's MT7510 just becomes one of the first VDSL2 solutions certified in China a few weeks ago, and will be deployed in China Telecom networks," stated Bomin Wang, CEO of EcoNet.

"Our integrated FTTdp platform combines the best of both worlds. By bringing together EcoNet's VDSL2 and PON expertise with innovative system architecture, it not only sets a new performance benchmark, but also enables service providers to deploy CapEx effective services today offering significantly higher data rate performance."

Key Features of EcoNet's FTTdp Platform,

  • Following ITU standard-defined band plans, it delivers up to 310Mbps aggregate data rate up to a distance of 200 meters.
  • Enables cost-effective with lowest chipset power consumption (< 3.0 Watt) for 1-Port FTTdp deployment
  • Leverages EcoNet's superior performance of xPON (MT752x series) and VDSL2 (MT751x series) technologies. Both chipsets are in volume production now.
  • Unified software architecture with more than 30 million broadband CPEs deployed per year
