Ministry of Information and Industry, SARFT and AVS Workgroup to Attend Introduction of 4Caster B3 With AVS at CCBN

SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif., March 21 /Xinhua-PRNewswire/ -- Demonstrating its ongoing dedication to the Chinese market and the production of the highest quality encoding solutions for video convergence from mobile to HD, Envivio Inc. today announced the world’s first telco-grade encoder that supports AVS for Broadcast and IPTV deployments. Delivering broadcast quality for both growing markets, the Envivio(R) 4Caster(TM) B3 professional encoder now supports AVS alongside with MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 and enables upgradeable deployments, through the use of updatable firmware. The new B3 with the AVS option will be demonstrated at the China Content Broadcasting Network (CCBN) trade show from March 29-April 1 on the Envivio stand #3401. The B3 will also have a formal introduction at a pre-show reception organized by CCBN and Envivio and attended by members of the Ministry of Information and Industry, SARFT and the AVS Workgroup.

"Envivio is pleased to endorse the AVS standard by providing the first telco-grade and broadcast quality professional AVS encoder to the market. Supporting the build-out of the digital television infrastructure market in China is a key focus for Envivio," said Julien Signes, President and CEO of Envivio Inc. "We are dedicated to leading the development of IP video solutions that offer the latest in video technology for Chinese broadcasters and service providers."

New Envivio B3 with AVS Option is Flexible and Interoperable for Chinese Service Providers

To support the Chinese conversion to an all-digital broadcasting infrastructure, the 4Caster B3 is the first professional encoder on the market to support both AVS and AVC/H.264 for Broadcast and IPTV installations. The B3 is based on Intel(R) Core(TM) microarchitecture. This flexible architecture adopted by Envivio for its 4Caster platform allows the company to quickly react to market demands for new features. Consequently, deployed 4Caster B3 encoders can be modified to enable AVS support with a firmware upgrade.

Recognizing that interoperability is key to successful IPTV deployments, the AVS option to the B3 is undergoing rigorous interoperability tests with several set-top box manufacturers. The commercially available Sunniwell IP-based set-top box will be shown working with the 4Caster B3 with AVS on the Envivio stand at CCBN.

To further support the AVS standard, Envivio also plans to add the AVS option to its award-winning Mobile Series of encoders and its Convergence Generation(TM) IP video headend.

Envivio to Introduce New AVS Encoder at Pre-show Reception at CCBN

On March 29, 2007, from 10:30-11:30 AM at the Beijing International Convention Center, Envivio will formally introduce the new 4Caster B3 encoder with AVS. Attendees will include members from the Chinese Ministry of Information and Industry, State Administration of Radio, Film, and Television (SARFT) and the Audio Video Coding Standard (AVS) Workgroup of China. Based on current development trends, it’s estimated that the transition from analog to digital broadcasting will create a market of several trillion US dollars.

About AVS

The Audio Video Coding Standard (AVS) Workgroup of China, http://www.avs.org.cn/en/ , of which Envivio is a member, applied the standard to high-resolution digital broadcasts, high-density laser-digital storage media, wireless broadband multimedia communication, and Internet broadband streaming media.
