First Sino-US Sharing Economy Industry Conference Held in San Francisco

SAN FRANCISCO, June 8, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- The Sino-US Sharing Economy Industry Conference of 2016 took place in San Francisco on May 31st to June 2nd. The conference sponsored by Sharing Economy Committee of Internet Society of China, brought together representatives from Chinese government, and experts from educational and corporate institutions to discuss the future development of sharing economy between US and China. The participants included representatives from Chinese Academy of Cyberspace Studies, Internet Society of China, NY University, Stanford University, as well as "pioneers" of the sharing economy in the US and China, such as Airbnb, Didi Chuxing, Lyft, WeWork and others.

Sharing economy is growing at an unprecedented rates in China and the Chinese government has increasingly recognized its importance for sustainable economic development. During the conference, Chinese Representatives shared the insights and latest examples of sharing economy in China. Xi Jingjing, Vice President of the Working Committee of Sharing Economy of Internet Society of China, stated that more than 500 million people in China had already participated in sharing economy market. Moreover, sharing economy is expected to continue growing at 40% per year in the next 5 years in China.

Experts from the US also introduced their latest findings. Professor Arun Sundararajan from New York University underlined that the development process from industrial economy to sharing economy is also a transformation process from an institution-based management mode to a crowd-based mode. April Rinne, a sharing economy advisor explained that each city around the world is opening to the concept of sharing economy. Since each city in China has its own distinctive features as well as the big development potential, companies in China should continue developing based on specific features of different cities.

Chinese delegation also visited several "pioneers" of the US sharing economy, including Airbnb, Lyft and WeWork. In the meetings the senior management of these companies has shared the best practices of sharing economy in different fields, including short-term rental, transportation and office sharing.
