The RxT Smart Productivity Test Platform offers a compact, comprehensive, scalable and cost-effective testing solution to manage and improve the performance of complex networks

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., March 15, 2012 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- Based on its recent analysis of the mobile backhaul testing market, Frost & Sullivan recognizes Sunrise Telecom Incorporated (Sunrise Telecom) with the 2011 Global Frost & Sullivan Award for New Product Innovation for its RxT Smart Productivity Test Platform. The RxT is a fully connected, workflow-optimized test and measurement solution that helps service providers lower operating expenses and increase efficiencies by simplifying and streamlining the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of complex network services.

With Carrier Ethernet becoming the preferred platform to support backhaul networks, replacing legacy technologies, such as Time-Division Multiplexing (TDM) and Synchronous Optical Networking (SONET)/Synchronous Digital Hierarchy (SDH), Sunrise Telecom's RxT platform addresses many of the concerns service providers have in terms of suitable and comprehensive test equipment.

"Due to the rising demand for complex high-bandwidth mobile services, the need to have a strong and fail-safe backhaul infrastructure supporting these services has become highly significant for mobile service providers today," explains Frost & Sullivan Senior Research Analyst Srihari Padmanabhan. "Moreover, service providers migrating from legacy to emerging backhaul technologies are experiencing a serious challenge in testing multiple technologies within a reasonable time and at an affordable cost. In such a scenario, the RxT Platform promises a huge market potential through its multiple and cost-efficient test capabilities."

The ruggedized, handheld RxT incorporates a modular design to enable service providers to cost-effectively test and verify a variety of legacy infrastructures and emerging backhaul networks using a single test platform. Hot-swappable test modules eliminate the need to purchase additional test systems for multiple technologies, thus resulting in significant cost reductions and lower operating expenses. In August 2011, Sunrise Telecom announced the addition of Dual T1 and SHDSL.bis capability into the RxT Platform, allowing it to support the installation and maintenance of T1 and Digital Signal 1 (DS1) circuits.

"In general, backhaul test equipment is too complex and heavy to be carried into the field, but the RxT's compact and portable form factor enables the technician to easily carry and operate the product in the field," said Srihari. "The fact that it is compatible with Sunrise Telecom's existing Modular Test Toolkit (MTT) platform ensures that existing customers are also able to take advantage of the enhanced benefits offered by the RxT Platform."

Designed for optimum field productivity, the RxT is equipped with a graphical user interface (GUI) with touch-screen functionality, which ensures clear visibility in outdoor conditions. Moreover, the GUI provides an application-guided testing that graphically takes a technician through the entire process of installation, testing, and interpreting results. The platform also integrates with Sunrise Telecom's realGATE workflow optimization system which ensures a job gets done right the first time, eliminating the need for repeat service calls.

While Sunrise Telecom has mainly targeted the mobile backhaul market, other potential customer sectors for the product include the network equipment field installation teams. In addition, the company is targeting the utilities and railways sectors, as these carry out high amounts of TDM testing, which can be supported by the RxT Platform.

Overall, Frost & Sullivan is proud to present Sunrise Telecom with the 2011 Global New Product Innovation Award in Mobile Backhaul Testing. With its state-of-the-art features and functionalities, the RxT Platform simplifies the workload of field technicians, thereby enhancing overall field productivity.

Each year, Frost & Sullivan presents this award to the company that has developed an innovative element in a product by leveraging leading-edge technologies.
