HONG KONG, Jan. 14 /PRNewswire-Asia-FirstCall/ -- Global Sources(Nasdaq: GSOL) has launched 'e-sourcing' -- a program designed to help China suppliers sell to top buyers in emerging markets. The first e-sourcing events are being held this month for selected large retail buyers from Russia.

Global Sources' Chairman and CEO, Merle A. Hinrichs, said: "e-sourcing is a powerful extension of our highly successful Private Sourcing Events.

"While Private Sourcing Events take place in a face-to-face environment, this new service is unique in that the entire process -- from pre-screening to supplier selection -- is conducted online.

"It's ideal for buyers in fast-growth emerging markets who might not have a permanent sourcing office in China. It also extends the reach for our China suppliers, giving them a platform to enter markets which offer huge growth opportunities."

e-sourcing is an efficient, three-step online process supervised by Global Sources' quality control team. First, Global Sources selects volume buyers. Next, suppliers with relevant products submit their applications online. Finally, Global Sources short-lists suppliers and sends approved supplier and product lists to participating buyers.

The program was created to help China suppliers sell to buyers in emerging markets including Brazil, Russia and India where growth remains strong or is expected to accelerate in the next 10 years.

Hinrichs said: "e-sourcing aims to give suppliers a way to grow their sales during the global slowdown and position themselves to take advantage of strong growth ahead in emerging markets.

"Brazil is expected to be the fifth consumption market in the world in 20 years. Russia's auto market is expected to grow 40 percent in the next five years. And India has already become one of China's top trading partners with bilateral trade projected to hit US$60 billion by 2010.

"e-sourcing is another example of how we are positioning our suppliers for a global economy with broadening geographic trade opportunities."

Global Sources' e-sourcing program is a complimentary service for buyers and available to Global Sources Verified Suppliers. Buyers and suppliers interested in participating can apply at
