Airline selects Honeywell to provide SmartRunway

SHANGHAI, Sept. 22, 2011 /PRNewswire-Asia/ --Honeywell (NYSE:HON) Aerospace has been selected to provide avionics for Air China's incoming new fleet of 30 B737NG aircraft. These selections, a reinforcement of Honeywell's  strong partnership with China's flagship carrier, will provide a safer and more efficient upgrade as the airline continues on its impressive growth track.

Honeywell will provide a comprehensive suite of avionics components for these aircraft and deliver all by 2015. The avionics programs include Honeywell's Traffic Collision Avoidance System (TCAS), Aircraft Communication Addressing and Reporting System (ACARS), and Voice and Flight Data Recorders. Air China has also selected Honeywell's SmartRunway on all of its future incoming aircraft.

"Our long-standing partnership with Air China has grown even deeper and stronger with this new agreement," said Mark Howes, president of Honeywell Aerospace's Asia-Pacific region. "The selection of Honeywell's technologies will deliver the safety and reliability that China's flagship carrier will need for global success."

SmartRunway improves pilot situational awareness and helps break the chain of events that can lead to a runway incursion, by providing aural and visual information during taxi, takeoff, final approach, landing and rollout. Using Global Positioning System (GPS) data, SmartRunway alerts are based on aircraft position compared to airport runway locations stored in Honeywell's worldwide terrain and runway database, which has proven itself for over 600 million flight hours.

Based in Phoenix, Arizona, Honeywell's aerospace business is a leading global provider of integrated avionics, engines, systems and service solutions for aircraft manufacturers, airlines, business and general aviation, military, space and airport operations.
