DLP400 Series Set To Revolutionise Identification Issuance By Reducing Passport And Card Issuance From Days To Hours With Class 1 Security Laser Marking System And High Functionality

PARIS, Nov. 19, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- IRIS Corporation, pioneer of the world's first ePassport and multi-application smart card eID, today launched DLP400 Series, the world's first smart desktop laser marker that can be used for both passports and cards, at CARTES 2013, the world's number one Security and Payment event. The DLP400 Series offer high functionality to meet growing demand for a wide range of identification issuance solutions among government bodies, financial institutions, healthcare providers, insurance companies, universities and card retailers.

According to ABI Research, the market for smart cards, secure ICs, inlays, (biometric) data capture, card personalisation, printing and issuance in government, healthcare, and citizen ID will reach a cumulative value of US$72 billion by 2016. The largest proportion of revenues will be from the deployment of national ID cards and e-passports.

The DLP400 Series was developed to provide highly secure and flexible engraving solutions for passports and cards. Currently, engravers are only able to fulfill a single function, either to engrave on a passport or a card in a pre-defined format. The DLP400 Series is able to engrave on both passports and cards using the same unit without compromising security. This immediately reduces the number of units required for issuance, saving the organisation cost. Additionally, the DLP400 Series is portable and compact with dimensions 510 mm X 680 mm X 622 mm, allowing for flexibility in usage.

"The DLP400 Series is most suited for a decentralised environment where instant issuance of secure eDocuments such as ePassports, national ID cards, driver's licenses, health cards and bank cards are required," said Dato' Hamdan Bin Mohd Hassan, CEO of IRIS Trusted Identification, Payment & Transportation Divisions. "In our discussions with Governments and large organisations, we understood the multiple challenges they faced in issuing identity, especially in dealing with the sheer quantity they receive on a daily basis, leading us to combine card and passport laser marking in one compact, portable device while maintaining high security at a competitive price. IRIS has been at the heart of the secure identification industry since our inception in 1994 and innovation remains key to our success. The DLP400 Series demonstrates our ability to keep producing cutting-edge products & solutions that deliver the best value to our customers."

The DLP400 Series is stacked with security features. It uses laser marking to flexibly create durable marking that is forgery-proof and resistant to wear and corrosion. It offers highly secure personalisation features such as CLI (Changeable Laser Images) and MLI (Multiple Laser Images), tactile elements, and engraving through transparent holograms, for identification and financial cards. The security features ensure that alteration is nearly impossible without destroying the card. Finally, a non-re-settable integrated digital card and passport counter prevents any attempt of credentials manipulation.

The DLP400 Series of smart laser markers also incorporates cutting edge technology for added functionality. It uses a high precisions smart camera system to ensure correct and consistent alignment of the printed text, images and the machine readable information. A wide and high-resolution touch screen enables consistent and ease of production using the Windows XP Embedded SP software. It is able to engrave in high resolutions of up to 1,200 dpi while ensuring durability. The DLP400 was built to minimise energy consumption and also its impact on the environment as no consumables such as ink and paper are required. It is also ICAO Document 9303 and ISO / IEC CR80 card size compliant and is equipped with a Class 1 laser marking system.
