Innovations with Secure Software, Systems Management and Standards Development Top the List of Achievements by Cyber Security Leaders at (ISC)2's 2012 ISLA Ceremony

Vice President of the Republic of the Philippines, Former Cybersecurity Coordinator for President Obama and Senior Japanese Government Officials Celebrate at Gala Dinner

TOKYO, July 17, 2012 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- (ISC)2 ® ("ISC-squared"), the world's largest not-for-profit information security professional body and administrators of the CISSP®, today recognized three distinguished information security initiatives led by outstanding honorees at its sixth annual Asia-Pacific Information Security Leadership Achievements (ISLA™) Program Gala Dinner and Ceremony. The ISLA Program is held annually by (ISC)2 in cooperation with the (ISC)2 Asian Advisory Board to recognize outstanding leadership and achievements in workforce improvement of information security and management professionals in the Asia-Pacific region. 

The distinguished workforce initiatives showcased this year were:

  • Information Security Practitioner Category Showcased Honoree: Nipon Nachin, CISSP, CSSLP, SSCP, professional service director, ACIS Professional Center Co., Ltd., Thailand. The recent information security problems in Thailand occur not only at the network or OS level, but also at the application and database level, according to Nipon. With a goal of developing an information security architecture to subsequently enhance the information security levels of companies and the state, Nipon created an awareness program and published a secure software development methodology in Thailand. Nipon is commended for his determination to rectify the root of information security problems at the application and data level in his awareness project. "I am very proud to be honored and would like to thank (ISC)2 for building a solid organization that provides the forefront of knowledge and awareness on global information security. I hope to have further opportunities to spread security knowledge to every part of Thailand," said Nipon.
  • Managerial Professional for an Information Security Project Category Showcased Honoree: Chella Namasivayam, chief information officer, iGATE Global Solutions Ltd., India. As CIO of the company, Chella Namasivayam spearheaded a project that encompasses the integration of the sovereign Information Security Management Systems (ISMS) of the company. It also included unification of policies, procedures and methodologies, vendor management, security teams, standardization of security tools, and automation of processes. Chella Namasivayam gives the utmost importance to information security functions and budgets for focused reviews around security metrics and overall information security functionality performance. "I am greatly honored to have been chosen for this prestigious recognition," said Chella Namasivayam. "It is a testimony to the collaboration and determination of my team, who helped to make this possible. I am delighted that the hard work put in for this integration has been well recognized through the Asia-Pacific ISLA program."
  • Senior Information Security Professional Category Showcased Honoree: Khawaja Faisal Javed, CISSP-ISSAP, ISSMP, CBCP, manager of operations and ICT products, SGS Pakistan (Pvt.) Limited. Khawaja has designed and conducted several certification courses on information security and related topics, training approximately 2,000 professionals from over 300 organizations worldwide. Outside of his job responsibilities, he has dedicated his time to serving the security community through voluntary research. Khawaja is a member of the first release of an Information Security Management System Auditing Guideline Standard - ISO 27007. "I have a passion for information security and wanted to achieve high standards not only for myself, but also for community. Although this project involved a lot of traveling away from my family, I gained a great deal of professional satisfaction," said Khawaja.
  • Community Service Star 2012: Chuan Wei Hoo, CISSP, CISA, information security officer, BT Singapore PTE Limited. In addition to his regular job responsibilities, Chuan Wei has been serving the Singapore standards community for the last 10 years as a volunteer and is currently a member of the Security & Privacy Standards Technical Committee (SPSTC), researching and reviewing ISO working papers for network and application security. "Through my experience working for the standards committee, I've gained insight into what other countries and experts are doing to establish an information security baseline for their economies. I have also learned that different perspectives from various industries create an environment more conducive to a holistic outcome," said Chuan Wei Hoo.

The Special Guest, vice president of the Republic of the Philippines, Honorable Jejomar C. Binay; Honorable Prof. Howard Schmidt, CISSP, CSSLP, former cybersecurity coordinator for the United States of America, other guests of honor, and (ISC)2 officials celebrated with the honorees at a gala dinner on July 17 at the Hilton Hotel in Tokyo, Japan. Mr. Ikuo Misumi, counsellor, Cabinet Secretariat, Government Information Security Standards, National Information Security Center, government of Japan; Mr. Toru Nakayama, deputy director-general, Commerce and Information Policy Bureau, Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry; and Mr. Yasuo Sakamoto, deputy director-general, Information and Communication Bureau, Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, addressed honorees and event guests.
