REDMOND, Wash., Aug. 6 /Xinhua-PRNewswire/ -- K2(TM), a division of SourceCode Technology Holdings, Inc., today released K2 blackpearl(TM), the centerpiece of its new software platform.

K2 blackpearl allows developers and business users to assemble, execute, monitor and optimize dynamic business applications that span employees, departments, organizations and line-of-business systems.

"This software puts tools in the hands of business people -- the people who actually use business software -- to build scalable applications from information that already exists and code that has already been written," says K2 CEO Adriaan van Wyk.

"This release is the foundation for serious innovation from SourceCode over the next few years, and it will push the envelope in this space."

K2 blackpearl includes business process management and workflow capabilities. Applications can be set up to automate and manage business processes -- such as document approval or inventory tracking -- or pull together business processes, people, services, information and systems into a single application that helps drive business.

And once the applications are built, they can be modified with familiar tools and environments.

Although blackpearl's capabilities far exceed those of K2's previous offering, K2.net 2003, existing customers can upgrade easily.

Release dates for other new K2 products have not been announced.
