Tech companies located in Mainland China and Taiwan set to do battle for regional IR honors
NEW YORK, Nov. 5, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Lenovo and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) both feature on nine short lists out of a possible 11 for the upcoming IR Magazine Awards - Greater China 2012. The technology companies in Mainland China and Taiwan will battle it out at the annual event - now in its 12th year - which celebrates the best investor relations in Mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan. This year's awards and conference take place on December 11 at the Conrad Hong Kong. For full short lists, please see below.
The highly decorated TSMC has this year improved on its record number of short lists in 2011, when it went on to win seven awards altogether. In equaling TSMC's nominations, Lenovo breaks up the 2011 Taiwan duopoly, when TSMC and HTC jointly shared the highest number of short lists.
HTC is not short-listed for any awards this year. In its place, fellow Taiwan tech firm Delta Electronics is up for eight awards. Delta Electronics reached number five in the 2011 IR Magazine Greater China Top 25 rankings. This came after featuring on four short lists in 2011, even though the company was ultimately unsuccessful, taking home the honor of being the highest-ranked company not to win an award.
Twelve months later, Delta Electronics forms part of a chasing pack from across Greater China: previous winners PetroChina and China Resources Enterprise join Pacific Basin Shipping of Hong Kong on eight short lists this year.
Just behind this quartet, China Telecom is in the running for six awards, marking a notable increase on the single short list it featured on in 2011. This includes competing for the grand prix award for large-cap companies, for which it will go up against Delta Electronics, PetroChina and TSMC - the defending champion and the only returning company from 2011 for that award category. Meanwhile, Agile Property of China will get another shot at winning the grand prix award for small or mid-cap companies. The 2011 runner-up will compete for the title against Pacific Basin Shipping, Lenovo and Golden Eagle Retail.
The IR Magazine Awards - Greater China 2012 are decided solely by an independent survey of investors and analysts, all of whom are located in the region. Just like in IR Magazine's other awards in Europe and the Americas, investors and analysts are asked to vote for their favorite company in each awards category. This year, 436 respondents took part in the survey. The four or so companies with the most votes in each category make the short list and the company with the most votes wins the award.
Votes for the awards also determine the IR Magazine Greater China Top 25, the rankings of the best IR companies in the region. The votes in each award category are added together and the company with the most votes is declared the number one ranked company in the area. The latest rankings will be revealed in the IR Magazine Investor Perception Study - Asia 2012/2013, which will be published soon after the IR Magazine Awards & Conference - Greater China 2012 on December 11.
