Macau.com Gets the Ball Rolling: The Best Sports Bars in Macau for Watching the UEFA EURO 2012

MACAU, June 7, 2012 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- Sixteen national football teams enter the knock out stage of competitions on their road to Kiev and the 2012 UEFA European Football Championship, with the group stage kicking off on June 8th and culminating with the final round on July 1st.  Acknowledging the challenges presented by the late kickoff times in Asian time zones, Macau.com reminds fans to plan in advance so as not to risk being sidelined from viewing the matches with their compatriots and fellow fans at local pubs and bars.

"Many of our favorite bars usually close by 3am, which is fine for the 'early' matches that kick off at midnight.  But they aren't guaranteeing they'll stay open for the 2:45 am matches.  It depends on which teams are playing and what the crowd is like," says Editor-in-Chief at Macau.com, Mamie Chen.

Macau.com's staff recommendations:

Irish Bar -- An expat favorite with a large screen in the main room and smaller TVs throughout the rest of the pub.  Known for its great atmosphere on "regular" nights, it will be sure to have a lively crowd when England, Portugal, or France are playing. All bets are off if the Republic of Ireland makes the final!  Last call is usually at 2:30am, so best to call in advance to confirm if the bar will stay open for late matches.
Address: Av Kwung Tung, 116D, Nam San Building, Block 6, R/c, E/F, Taipa, Macau.  +853-2882-0708

Old Taipa Tavern (OTT) -- Another regular expat watering hole with a large lean on bar and a relaxed environment – a better setting for fans to watch their team escape the "Group of Death". OTT have promised to show all the midnight matches, but 2:45 am kickoffs might be pushing it.
Address: Rua dos Negociantes, No. 21, Taipa Old Village, Taipa, Macau.  +853-2882-5221

McSorley's Ale House -- Comfortable seating and plenty of TV screens, it's the perfect place for a large group. The pub normally closes at 3am, but may stay open later for the UEFA Championship. Address: Shop 1038 Grand Canal Shoppers, The Venetian Macao.  +853-2882-8198

Macau Bar Street -- This heritage area is a local favouriate. Superfans who cannot bear the thought of missing a single second of the live action should head straight to Macau's Bar Street. There are a number of bars with large screen TVs and all are guaranteed to be open late.
Address: Edificio Vista Magnifica Court, Avenida Dr. Sun Yat Sen, Macau.

Whisky Bar -- Leave the football hooligans behind and watch the championship in more refined settings.  Plush seats with a long marble bar table and a 70-inch plasma screen are available at the Whisky Bar. Address: 16/F, StarWorld Hotel, Avenida da Amizade, Macau.  +853-8290-8698
