China Sourcing Report: CCTV & Surveillance Products covers cameras, systems and digital video recorders

HONG KONG, June 10 /PRNewswire-Asia-FirstCall/ -- Most mainland China CCTV and surveillance device manufacturers are expecting sales growth of more than 10 percent in the next 12 months. This is according to Global Sources' (Nasdaq: GSOL) China Sourcing Report: CCTV & Surveillance Products

Despite optimistic sales expectations, manufacturers surveyed for the report plan to either decrease prices (35 percent) or keep prices steady (30 percent).

"Weakness in the U.S. market and intensifying price competition have led to most manufacturers being conservative about pricing," said Spenser Au, Publisher of the Report. "Of suppliers planning to raise prices, 62 percent say they plan to limit price increases to less than 5 percent."

Among interviewed CCTV and surveillance device suppliers' plans to become more competitive in the coming months:

-- 35 percent are mainly focused on improving operating efficiency;

-- 26 percent are aiming to decrease product defects;

-- 17 percent are widening product ranges;

-- 13 percent are shortening design/development times; and

-- 9 percent are reducing production costs.

IP models set to lead R&D trends over the next 12 months

Au said: "IP cameras currently make up only a small percentage of production, most of which go to the domestic sector.

"However, IP integration is a key product development priority for suppliers, driven mainly by the growing IP surveillance segment. The lower cost of IP modules and the maturing technology are also aiding makers from the traditional analog surveillance sectors in expanding into this line.

"Over half of surveyed suppliers plan to invest in network transmission solutions as they increase the output of IP models.

"Suppliers' other top plans include the development of higher image resolutions and improving external design innovation. Despite the global slowdown and fierce price competition, suppliers in the sector remain focused on creating more innovative products at competitive prices. Buyers sourcing from the region can expect to get leading-edge products at only slightly higher prices they paid last year."
