Summit to focus on the transformation of China's airport infrastructure in the next 20 years

BEIJING, Feb. 26 /Xinhua-PRNewswire/ -- McGraw-Hill Construction, the premier provider of construction information and intelligence in North America and part of The McGraw-Hill Companies (NYSE: MHP), today announced it will present the 2007 China Airport Construction Summit, May 14-15, 2007 in Xi'an, China, in collaboration with International Aviation Group (IAG), the largest professional publisher in China for the aviation and aerospace industries, and AVIATION WEEK, a sister unit at McGraw-Hill.

The event, themed "Building the Infrastructure for China's Next Century of Air Travel," will focus on the transformation of China's airport infrastructure in the next 20 years. Attendees will discuss strategies and practices on building secure, sustainable, modern airports. Industry leaders from China and around the world will share their best practices on designing and modernizing small to medium-size airports, the latest air traffic control technologies and how to incorporate them in the design phase, and alternative financing for airport construction.

"China has experienced a boom in airport construction since 1990 and is planning to spend another $18 billion on airport construction during the next five years. Airport operations will also be modernized by adopting advanced technology and good management practices," said Norbert Young, President of McGraw-Hill Construction. "McGraw-Hill Construction will work closely with IAG and AVIATION WEEK, leveraging our extensive industry connection and rich experiences in China to deliver the best ever airport event to our audience, helping them see what opportunities and challenges we face and how to act."

Tom Henricks, President of AVIATION WEEK, puts China's construction efforts into broader industry context. "Over the next twenty years, China is predicted to become the world's second-largest aviation market and as such, the focus on infrastructure development and expansion has never been more important," he said. "This conference will not only set the pace for the construction of airports but will strengthen the foundation of China's aviation industry as a whole."

The Summit is supported by prominent international and local media, including Engineering News-Record and Construction Times (China). 200 industry executives, including airport owners/management companies, service/technology providers, architects, engineers, contractors, financiers and industry policy makers, are expected to gather at Xi'an, the country's ancient capital city and an aviation industry hub in China's heartland for this one-and-a-half-day event.
