HONG KONG, Nov. 8, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- MetLife's strong commitment to innovation and disruptive technology has made it the award winner in the category of "Technology Initiative of the Year" at the 17th Asia Insurance Industry Awards Gala Dinner.

"The Technology Initiative of the Year" Award is one of the categories in the Asia Insurance Awards presented by Asia Insurance Review, a premier regional magazine for insurance professionals. This Award distinguishes transformative technology and applications that can enhance efficiency in responding to customer needs. The award was voted by a panel of independent judges.

The winning initiative - MetLife's Mobile Ubiquitous Life Insurance Access Network (MULAN) is an operating system-agnostic mobile customer services application that allows 24/7 real-time self-servicing capabilities. It was launched in Korea in the beginning of 2013 and MetLife is planning on rolling out this initiative to the rest of its operation in Asia.

Mr. Chris Townsend, President for MetLife Asia Pacific Ltd., said, "We are proud to receive this prestigious award. MULAN is a great demonstration of our commitment to putting the customer at the centre of everything we do."

"Mobility is one of the key strategic technology themes identified by MetLife to capitalize on the proliferation of smart devices in Asia and energize our growth. We seek to connect with our business partners, agents and customers in a faster and more personalized way. By enhancing our mobile capability, we are able to offer our customers greater flexibility and convenience in interacting with us, thus significantly uplifting the overall customer experience," said Mr. Gary Teh, Chief Information Officer of MetLife Asia Pacific Ltd.

MetLife was also awarded the "Best Mobile Application Award" in the Asia Insurance Technology Awards Presentation (AITA) last year for its Mobile Office System (MOS) by Asia Insurance Review, and most recently as "Model Insurer Asia for Agent Portal" by Celent, an international financial research and consulting firm. MetLife's MOS is another operating system-agnostic mobile application platform that provides full-scale end-to-end sales resources for its business partners and agents in real time.
