Mexico Launches 'Septiembre Mexicano', a Month Long Festival Celebration for the City of Hong Kong

HONG KONG, Sept. 9, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- The Consulate General of Mexico in Hong Kong will organize a series of art, culture, music, gastronomic, and trade promotional activities in Hong Kong during the whole month of September to celebrate its 205th anniversary of Independence.

Septiembre Mexicano consists of a series of activities organized by the Consulate General of Mexico in coordination with key partners around the city of Hong Kong covering arts, music, film, fashion, business and trade promotion. FASHION EXHIBITION - Mexican designer Carmen Rion, at the "Renaissance of Fashion" event.

Renowned Mexican designer Carmen Rionwill present her textile designs at the Fashion Gallery, Polytechnic University. Carmen Rion is a fashion researcher and designer recognized for her pioneering role in rescuing traditional textiles of Mexico and integrating them into contemporary fashion. Carmen Rion will offer her extremely authentic Mexican creations at the famous International Festival of Extra Ordinary Textiles 2015 in Hong Kong.

Enjoy the millenary dishes and 21st century haute cuisine from Mexico in Hong Kong during the whole month of September at Shangri La. Renowned Mexican chef Jose Lazcarro will fly directly from Mexico City to carefully select and prepare some of the most traditional Mexican dishes for the Hong Kong public, including: ceviche, shrimp agua chile, mole poblano, green pipian, and many more. The gastronomic festival will take place at the CafeToo and the Lobster Bar of the Shangri La.

Chef Lazcarro is originally from Puebla, Mexico, is the winner of various gastronomical national and international prizes, and was part of the team of Chef Alain Ducasse in Paris in 2009. After his stay in France, he travelled to the USA to work with Chef Robert McCormick in Aspen, Colorado, and finally decided to go back to Mexico as Executive and Instructor Chef at Restaurant Quinze in the city of Puebla.

World renowned Mexican artist Roberto Turnbull will inaugurate his first solo exhibit in East Asia on September 8th, at the Museum and Art Gallery of the Hong Kong University. The 26 artworks in the "Mexican Big Bang: Paintings by Roberto Turnbull" will introduce the work of the famous abstract painter.

Roberto Turnbull is one of the most relevant contemporary artists in Mexico. His versatility of themes and technique is one of his most remarkable features. He feels comfortable all the same in the realm of painting and sculpting; in the chaos of the flat abstraction, and in the order of the three-dimensional geometry. Turnbull, a sculptor, engraver, drawer and painter, originally from Mexico City, was formed in the renowned "Esmeralda" school of arts, and has exhibited in all of the most famous galleries and museums of Mexico, as well as internationally, including New York.

To the Sea (2009), is directed, written, produced, filmed, and edited by Pedro Gonzalez-Rubio. Gonzalez-Rubio is part of the Mexican New Cinema generation, a group of young Mexican filmmakers creating independent and original internationally recognized for their quality. The film Alamar follows a young man from Italy, Natan Machado Palombini, who joins his father, Jorge Machado, and his grandfather, Nestor Marin, in a fishing village on the coast of Mexico. Before their inevitable farewell, Jorge, a young man of Mayan roots, and Natan, his half-Italian son, spend time together living off the Banco Chinchorro coral reef. This film won more than 20 international prizes and recognitions, including Festivals from Argentina, Peru, Miami, Mexico, Rotterdam, Tolouse, and many others.

Ernesto Anaya will fly as part of Septiembre Mexicano Festival and offer a very particular, as well as original, folkloric music from Mexico. He is a singer, composer, violinist, guitarist, pianist, and producer, as well as a jaranero or Jarana player. Jarana is a guitar-shaped instrument from the southern region of the state of Veracruz, Mexico.

With a deep understanding of the countryside roots of the Mexican music from the Huasteca region, combining opera techniques in his style, Ernesto Anaya has been one of the greatest musicians of Mexico for more than 30 years. From Mexico City, and with musical studies in the best music schools of Mexico, Ernesto Anaya has worked in hundreds of musical projects with the best musicians in the country, including film, theater, radio and television.
