Mobile Internet Users Amount 117 million; Generation Y the Driving Force

BEIJING, Aug. 24 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- 3G.cn, the largest mobile internet portal in China, boasting a total of 100 million mobile users, today commented that it expects its fast-paced development to continue, thanks mainly to the enormous popularity of 3G products in China that sees Generation Y as the driving force of that popularity.

The promotion and popularization of 3G in China has accelerated the development of the wireless Internet, particularly with young people who are enthusiastic for experiencing new things, making mobile phones an indispensable communication tool in their daily lives.

Teenagers throughout China, like Wang Teng, have become reliant on mobile devices to communicate and to catch-up on the latest news and gossip. Wang Teng says that many of his schoolmates are playing in the mobile community on 3G.cn and making friends at anytime, anywhere. He said, "The community and Bla on 3G.cn are so interesting that lots of classmates are used to logging on and saying goodnight to each other before going to bed."

A recent report on the Chinese market indicated that as of June 2009, the mobile internet had amassed 155 million users, an increase of 32.1% over the previous six months. With the number mostly centered on the 10-29 age group, amongst the overall number of netizens, net surfing via mobile devices attracts the younger generation more, especially teenagers. While mobile IM is the major reason for connecting to the mobile internet, the percentages of mobile searching and online music listening/downloading take up 26.2% and 25.8% respectively, forming the tier II of mobile applications. Mobile TV, mobile communities and mobile reading have also now become popular applications among youth today.

The great market potentials as well as the successes of local 3G mobile sites in China have attracted a great numbers of tycoons in the industrial chain, such as Microsoft, Nokia, China Mobile and China Telecom. They have all established deep partnerships with 3G.cn, jointly pushing the development of mobile internet in China, uplifting the service values to Chinese users in this 3G era.

As a result, people like Wang Teng recently found that certain popular mainstream channels of 3G.cn such as the news, entertainment and community channels were embedded into the most updated mobile MSN version, allowing Wang Teng to instantly share this news with classmates in the 3G.cn community and Bla via MSN.

Yuqiang Deng, CEO of 3G.cn, noted, "The usage habits of Chinese consumers is different from those of Japanese, Korean, European and American users, with the popularization of mobile terminals in China the widest in the world, the needs for entertainment are the strongest, and users are more dependent on mobiles to meet their connectivity needs.

"We adhere that the essence of internet is that it be free of charge and open. 3G.cn is now completely different from what it was like in 2004, increasing from four channels to over 70 major channels and around one thousand sub-channels, and from the simple delivery of news to mainstream media involvement and event coverage, reporting to 100 million mobile users," concluded Yuqiang Deng.

As such, Yuqiang remains fully confident in the future of the 3G market in China, and of the future business of 3G.cn.
