BEIJING, July 21 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- Through a joint venture providing travel security services for international travellers and expatriates, International SOS and Control Risks have assisted at least 40 multinational companies who have business travellers and expatriates affected by last Friday's bombings in Jakarta's Mega Kuningan business district.

Over the past four days, International SOS evacuated eight members to Singapore and assisted one with local hospital admission. The last victim arrived in Singapore safely last night on an air ambulance escorted by an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) doctor, an anesthetist and an ICU nurse. Out of the eight evacuations, seven were transported by air ambulances fitted with a life support system and escorted by a medical escort team for each move. One victim travelled on a commercial flight escorted by a doctor. Upon arrival in Singapore, all were immediately warded in several hospitals based on their medical conditions.

Up to eight senior medical directors of International SOS were involved in more than 20 medical cases, from medical monitoring to following up on their medical treatment in Singapore. A total of 10 aviation providers in Indonesia and Singapore were activated to support the emergency air evacuations. Injured members were also treated at International SOS' two clinics in Cipete and Kuningan. The teams are now working to repatriate the mortal remains of three members to Australia and New Zealand.

International SOS and Control Risks provided advice and counsel to nearly 200 individuals spanning 40 multinational organisations. These individuals were either in Indonesia at the time of the bombings or were about to travel into the country.

International SOS and Control Risks also released information periodically to its clients through advisories as well as notified its travellers through its web-based traveller tracking system. The joint operating unit has earlier deployed a security specialist to Jakarta to provide on-the-ground security support and assistance to members. The security specialist is conducting ongoing security reviews to ensure clients and members have access to the latest security situation on the ground.

Since the onset of the Jakarta bombings last week, a regional crisis management team involving International SOS alarm centres in Jakarta, Philadelphia and Singapore, was set up immediately. The crisis management team developed a plan of action to ensure that all victims received appropriate medical care and assistance including evacuation of the seriously injured patients as well as to advise travellers arriving into Jakarta on the situation on the ground. This team comprised medical, security, aviation, logistical and communications specialists.

Three medical teams were deployed from International SOS' Jakarta Alarm Centre to three local hospitals where the injured were taken to identify and assist members.

At this very difficult time, we send our condolences to the victims and their families affected by the disaster. International SOS will do all we can to provide assistance to our clients, members and victims.
