Mr. Liu Changle of Phoenix Satellite Television Holdings Limited Named Business Person of the Year at "DHL/SCMP Hong Kong Business Awards 2012"

HONG KONG, Nov. 29, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- DHL, the world's leading logistics company, and the South China Morning Post today announced that Mr. Liu Changle, Chairman and CEO of Phoenix Satellite Television Holdings Limited, has been chosen as Business Person of the Year at the 'DHL/SCMP Hong Kong Business Awards 2012'.


 

Mr. Liu Changle, the founding Chairman and CEO of Phoenix Satellite Television Holdings Limited (HKSE: 2008), formed the Chinese language satellite broadcaster in March 1996 through a joint venture between his company, Today's Asia Limited, together with Satellite Television Asian Region Limited (STAR) and China Wise International Limited.  Phoenix rose to become an influential regional Mandarin broadcaster within its first few years and it now operates six channels with a viewership and more than 300 million in over 180 countries and regions.

Programmes produced by Phoenix are distributed all around the world to such channels as National Geographic, Rogers Broadcasting, Aljazeera and History Channel.

The group also has interested in radio broadcasting, outdoor LED boards, magazine publishing, education, and film and television production.

Mr. Liu was also the architect of the successful listing of Phoenix New Media Limited (NYSE: FENG) on the New York Stock Exchange.

The company is also heavily involved in the field of corporate social responsibility. By staging star studded events, millions of dollars have raised for the victims of the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami and the 2008 Sichuan earthquake. Phoenix, in order to build better cross straits relations has also staged art exhibitions in Taipei at which numerous art works from many Mainland museums were displayed.

Mr. Liu is a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, the Vice Chairman of the Subcommittee on Education, Science, Culture, Health and Sports of NCCPPCC. He was conferred with a Silver Bauhinia Star, is a Justice of Peace, and an International Emmy Directorate Award recipient.

The "DHL/SCMP Hong Kong Business Awards" judging committee also honored Mr Benjamin Hung, Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of Standard Chartered Bank (Hong Kong) Limited, as the winner of the Executive Award; Mr. Girish Jhunjhnuwala, Founder and CEO of Ovolo Group Limited as the winner of the Owner Operator Award, and Mr. Jacky Kwan, Chairman of Bamboos Professional Nursing Services Limited, named the Young Entrepreneur Award. Cheung Kong Infrastructure Holdings Limited clinched the International Award. Hong Kong Air Cargo Terminals Limited gained the Enterprise Award. China Everbright International Limited took home the China Company Award and Green Tomato won the SME Award.

The "DHL/SCMP Hong Kong Business Awards 2012" judging panel was chaired by Professor Yue-Chim Richard Wong, who is Professor of Economics, The University of Hong Kong, and included representatives from The Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce, DHL Express, The South China Morning Post, Junior Chamber International Hong Kong, The Chinese General Chamber of Commerce, The Hong Kong Trade Development Council, and The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited.

The judging panel also included last year's winners - Mr. Peter Kwong Ching Woo of The Wharf (Holdings) Limited, Ms. Caroline Mak of The Dairy Farm Group, Mr. Arnald Ho of Print-Rite Holdings Limited, Mr. Kevin She of SC Logistics Co. Ltd, Mr. Andrew Kwok of Hutchison Global Communications Limited, Mr. Jane Tong of Giormani, Ms. Peggie Wai of Agile Property Holdings Limited and Mr. Joseph Chan of AsiaPay Limited.

CPA Australia was once again a special advisor to the Awards program in 2012.  They helped in defining the criteria for Awards and set KPI's to assist in the judging process.
