BEIJING, March 14 /Xinhua-PRNewswire/ -- The British Business Awards (http://www.britishbusinessawards.cn/), which are being led by British Chamber of Commerce in China and supported by United Kingdom Trade and Investment (UKTI) of The British Embassy, British Council, China-Britain Business Council and Confederation of British Industry, today announced the creation of a new award category for Chinese scholars that have studied in the UK. The 'Alumni of the Year' award will recognise the contributions of Chinese UK alumni that are contributing positively to business and cultural ties between the UK and China. Over 165, 000 of UK-educated Chinese scholars will be eligible for nomination at the British Business Awards this November.

The British Business Awards this week welcomed the British Council and UKTI as the first two Award category sponsors for 'Company of the Year' and 'Alumni of the Year' respectively. The 'Alumni of the Year' Award will recognise Chinese UK alumni that have applied themselves to enhancing business links between the two countries.

Ms. Jazreel Goh, Director of Education Marketing at The British Council said, "The British Council (operating as Cultural and Education Section of the British Embassy) is pleased to sponsor the Alumni of the Year category. Graduates from the UK are highly valued for their individualism, knowledge and skills as well as their aim for excellence, enthusiasm, confidence and independence. The British Business Awards serves as a great platform for UK alumni to demonstrate these characteristics and their contribution to UK and China ties."

Along with the new 'Alumni of the Year' category, four other Award categories will recognise Company of the Year, Innovative Product of the Year, Corporate Social Responsibility Programme of the Year and Entrepreneur of the Year. The British Business Awards will be held in Beijing in November this year with Sir William Ehrman, KCMG, Her Majesty's Ambassador to the People's Republic of China serving as the patron of the Awards.

"British exports, British investment in China and Chinese investment in the UK is at the highest level it has ever been. UKTI is delighted to sponsor the 'Company of the Year' category, and we look forward to recognising the company that best fosters these business links between our two countries", said Mr. Alastair Morgan, UKTI Director of Trade and Investment for China.
