FARMINGTON, Conn., May 15 /Xinhua-PRNewswire/ -- Otis Elevator Company, a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX), won a $5 million contract to supply and install its environmentally friendly and energy-efficient Gen2(R) elevators for Citi Field, the new world-class home of the New York Mets, scheduled to open in 2009.

"We are honored that the Mets ownership group has selected Otis products to help transport fans throughout the team's new state-of-the-art ballpark and its many unprecedented amenities and attractions," said Otis President Ari Bousbib.

Most of the elevators Otis will provide are Gen2 systems with patented flat-belt drive technology, machine-roomless design and environmentally friendly benefits. The Gen2 elevator's patented coated-steel belts and gearless machine do not require lubrication, making the system cleaner for the environment. In addition, its gearless, permanent-magnet machine consumes half the energy of conventional geared machines.
