Nexans to Supply 500km of Cable for Airfield Lighting System at Cairo International Airport

PARIS, Oct. 20 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- Nexans, the worldwide leader in the cable industry, is supplying Cairo Engineering Equipment with approximately 500km of cable to be used in the new third runway being constructed at Cairo International Airport in Egypt. Construction of the new runway has already started, and it will be 4,000 metres long and 65 metres wide. It will replace the current cross runway after it becomes operational, increasing the capacity of the airport to 120 movements per hour.

The 500km of cable supplied by Nexans will be comprised of 340km of 5kV primary cable, which will provide power to the lighting transformers, and 80km of H07RN-F standard secondary cable, which will connect the transformers to the airfield lights. The system will also include 80km of H07V-U standard earth cables.

"Nexans was awarded the contract because its cables complied with all the international specifications for airfield applications," says Paolo Pieri Nexans' Airport Infrastructure Business Segment Manager. "We were also awarded the contract because our products are competitively priced and due to our extensive customer support and reference list."

The cables will be manufactured at Nexans' plants located in Lyon, Bohain and Autun in France.
