Over 1,000 Geoscientists Descends at Kuala Lumpur to Seek Resolutions on The Industry's Struggles

Asia Petroleum Geoscience Conference and Exhibition 2015 (APGCE 2015)

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia, Oct. 7, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- The Asia Petroleum Geoscience Conference and Exhibition (APGCE) 2015, sets to take place at Asia's hub for Oil and Gas activities, Kuala Lumpur from 12 to 13 October 2015 - which will bring together business leaders, technical gurus and industry's experts to share, discuss and debate in the quest to advance and innovate in facing the current challenges faced by the industry.

Apt to its theme "Energising Asia Through Geoscience Ideas and Solutions", resolutions will be sought on factors such as the Big Data phenomenon, minimising non-productive time, HSE risks and even stepping-up competitiveness in the market and enhance success rate of discoveries, to highlight a few.

In the event, geoscientists along with business leaders and industry experts will explore on the challenges and opportunities faced by the oil & gas industry in exploring new plays and prospects especially in South-East Asia, integration with multidisciplinary experiences and the critical role of geoscience in safe and cost effective drilling. PETRONAS' Vice President, Exploration International and Patron to the APGCE 2015 Organising Committee Encik Effendy Cheng Abdullah commented: "The oil & gas industry is diversely challenged today, in the thick of an intensely globalised energy market. The solutions need to be addressed not just in view of monetising available resources but in identifying future resource prospects in a more holistic and efficient manner to reduce future CAPEX. The pioneering nature of the geoscience discipline makes it imminent for us to come together and unlock new solutions that was even unthinkable of, or deemed unnecessary in the past."

With the current oil price fluctuations affecting the industry and economies, hosting Oil and Gas events such as APGCE in Malaysia do have its merits, PETRONAS' Head of Basin Analysis and Acreage Evaluations - Atlantic, Exploration International and APGCE 2015's Organisation Committee Chairman Encik Azmir Zamri explained: "The interesting fact about knowledge gaining events is that it never seizes to grow and gain traction even in challenging times. In contrary, the need for more critical conversations amongst the fraternity spurred on the interest. This is why APGCE 2015 is still receiving a very encouraging response from local as well as international participants, who are flying in from various Asian countries, USA and Europe to join us in Kuala Lumpur. The sweet spot for technical and economic growth still points to Asia in lieu of world oil and gas demand, which comes with an abundance of untapped opportunities waiting to be seized."

"To add value to participants, we have injected many new features including the Prospect Pavilion and Prospect Forum where exploration opportunities and business deals can be exchanged in an open stage and the Core Display where for the first time; core samples over 200 meters long from Malaysian basins are brought into the Event venue for participants to gain insights of the reservoir rocks from various geological setting," continues Azmir. With already confirmed participation from over 40 companies - PETRONAS, ExxonMobil, Halliburton, ConocoPhillips, CGG, Mubadala, Murphy and Shell among many others, this manifests that the industry is still optimistic even in the face of economic instability.

Furthermore, in pursuance of nurturing the geoscientists of tomorrow, a CSR approach programme dubbed the Student Programme is making a comeback, where this year the best among them will be given the opportunity to travel to Vienna, Austria to attend the 78th EAGE Annual Conference next year.

This conference may appear to be technical at first glance, but APGCE 2015 seeks to inspire the participants to step outside familiar grounds in the quest of finding innovative solutions not only to enhance the Oil & Gas production, but also in fulfilling the people's need for energy efficiently.
