Pacnet Named Best Wholesale Carrier at Telecom Asia Awards 2009

The award from the region's leading telecoms trade publication recognizes Pacnet's commitment towards expanding its network assets to support industry leading services

HONG KONG, March 27 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- Pacnet has been named Best Wholesale Carrier at the Telecom Asia Awards 2009. The Awards, currently in its 12th year, are Asia's only independent, performance-based awards that recognizes and honors the achievements of the region's telecommunications carriers and executives.

"We are deeply honored to receive this award again, which clearly recognizes the success of our strategic investments into the upgrading and expansion our network assets to become Asia's best," said Wilfred Kwan, Chief Technology Officer of Pacnet at the awards ceremony held at W Hotel, Hong Kong on 27th March 2009. Pacnet has previously won the Best Wholesale Carrier award in 2007, under its previous name Asia Netcom.

"Winning this award is also testament to the combined efforts of our entire team, which has brought together award-winning product innovation with class-leading service delivery to set the bar in the wholesale industry," added Mr Kwan.

Winners are chosen by a panel of judges of industry professionals and Telecom Asia editors, and backed by analysis from leading global IT telecom and software research firm Ovum.

In 2008, Pacnet completed the integration of its subsea cables to create the region's longest subsea cable EAC-C2C. Pacnet owns and operates the 36,800km long submarine cable network, which has dual landing points in China, Hong Kong, Korea, Philippines and Singapore, and three landing points in Japan and Taiwan. Along with the intelligence embedded through state-of-the-art automatically switched optical network (ASON) equipment deployed throughout the network, customers enjoy the highest level of network protection available.

Pacnet is also the largest investor in Unity, a US$300 million, 10,000km cable system that is being built by a global consortium and will connect Chikura, Japan with the west coast of the United States. Pacnet will control two of the five fiber pairs in Unity. Each of the fiber pairs of the Unity cable system are capable of carrying up to 960 Gbps, and the cable system can scale up to eight fiber pairs.
