- Global Report Launch: Energy [R]evolution: Global Sustainable Energy Outlook

BERLIN, Oct. 21 /Xinhua-PRNewswire/ --

Dear Sir or Madam,

Gigantic sums of money have evaporated completely in the past few weeks of global financial crisis. Meanwhile a much more urgent problem has for a short time receded into the background. Climate change threatens not only the financial sector but the whole of mankind. We want to show you what positive effects consistent action to protect the climate can also have for the economy. The report presented at this press conference, energy [r]evolution - A Sustainable Global Energy Outlook - contains a detailed analysis of the global potential in energy efficiency and of the transport sector, together with an analysis of global and regional developments in costs in the electricity sphere until 2030.

Acting on behalf of Greenpeace and the European Renewable Energy Council, scientists at the German Aerospace Research Centre and Dutch energy institute, Ecofys, have examined what the alternatives are for supplying energy in industrialised countries and the up-and-coming developing countries of China and India, and when the further expansion of coal-fired power plants in these countries can be stopped. A new political instrument for supporting renewable energy in developing countries will be presented.

Copies of the new 210 page report with one global and 10 regional energy scenarios, an executive summary will be online on October 27th, 2008, 10 AM CET under:
