SHANGHAI, Sept. 21 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- On the morning of September 18, the 12th Chengdu Motor Show (CDMS) was grandly opened at the New International Convention & Exposition Center, Chengdu Century City. As the largest and most influential auto show in western China, CDMS 2009 has witnessed a significant growth in terms of quality and scale. The fairground accommodates 516 vehicles in a total display area of 100,000 sqm. As an important city in western China with a time-honored history and culture, Chengdu boasts a significant strategic position in the automobile market. Particularly in this tough economic climate, CDMS 2009 has attracted great attention from the industry and the public.

The press day embraced 1,050 reporters from home and abroad, which included CCTV, Xinhua News Agency, Economic Daily, China Daily, China Trade News, China Auto News, Nanfang Daily, West China City Daily, Chengdu Business, Hongkong Business, Phoenix TV, Hongkong Takungpao, Hongkong Wenweipo, Asahi, SOHU and SINA, etc., who came in the early morning to provide first-hand coverage of the show. The scale of the media coverage has phenomenally exceeded that of previous years. In parallel, the number of new car models released at this year's show also hit a record high, with a large number of enterprises launching their new car models for the first time in the west, in China and even in the whole of Asia.

Around 9:00 in the morning, Volvo, with its complete range of brands, started the new car model unveilings with its S40, S80L, XC60 and XC90. Among these models, the long S80L led the way as the newly launched luxurious sedan that is tailored to the preferences of Chinese consumers. As one of the four most influential auto shows in China, the Chengdu Motor Show has been gaining attention from automakers both at home and abroad. The exhibition stand of over 1,000 sqm in Hall 6, provides a wonderful platform for FAW-Volkswagen to show their fabulous new cars: Satigar 1.4TSI+DSG and the new Golf. At the same time, on the Geely show stand, the Emgrand EC718 was surrounded by legions of reporters. As Geely's most high-end model, the car is a crystallized epitome of the brand's top-caliber manufacturing technique.

With the introduction of the large displacement excise duty policies, Mitsubishi's brand new PAJERO 3.0L was also officially launched in China. The new car model, which is more fuel-economic than its predecessors, maintains the strong power of an off-road vehicle.

The most eye-catching show is Mercedes-Benz's first time Asia release of its brand new E-coupe. To the show, Benz brought its four most renowned brands Mercedes-Benz, Mercedes-AMG, Smart and Maybach and its 16 leading car models, occupying a display area of 1,400 sqm, which created an extremely fascinating scene in the fairground.

With both domestic and international exhibitors taking active part in the 12th Chengdu Motor Show, the new car releases have injected great momentum to the automobile market in west China.

Also, a series of parallel events were organized to maximize the influence of the Chengdu Motor Show. With professional planning, the organizers made the show a perfect platform for trade visitors and public audiences to be better involved in the recreational auto culture of Chengdu. The Auto Fashion Show of CDMS 2009, which was held on the afternoon of September 18, boasted the attendance of 100 auto leaders, 30 auto experts and a large number of editors from mainstream medias. As commented by Mr. Wang Xia, President of CCPIT Automotive Sub-council, the award ceremony is not only a great creation of the automobile industry, but also a dynamic power to lead the industrial trend and promote harmonious consumption. During the Awards Ceremony & Evening Reception of CDMS 2009 held in the evening of the same day, a series of awards were presented to outstanding cars and their manufacturers. At the same time, over 70 elites from the automobile industry got together at the Auto Brand Leaders' Salon to enjoy the beautiful scenery and tasty wine, and communicate with colleagues from all over the world. With an in-depth discussion of the history of auto culture in Chengdu, the activity successfully integrated topics of harmony, leadership and leisure to reflect the theme of the grand show.

For public convenience during the show, the organizing committee cooperated with the dealers to provide visitors with six shuttle buses running on three different routes for free to the fairground. At the same time, the organizing committee, together with the exhibitors, provided the press center with four vans for the convenience of reporters.
