HONG KONG, July 3 /Xinhua-PRNewswire/ -- RICS Asia Pacific announces today that Messrs David Tse (Chairman of Hong Kong Board) and Kenneth Chan (Re-elected Governing Councillor for Asia Region) have secured the only two seats available for RICS Governing Council (GC) in the Asia & Middle East Region. Their terms of office will begin in July 2007 for four years.

The GC is the top decision making body in RICS. It sets the direction and strategy for the RICS and is made up of over 60 chartered surveyors drawn from all over the world. Having set the direction, the GC will monitor achievement and performance and adjust strategy as required. With the only two seats for Asia & Middle East Region going to Hong Kong members this clearly reflects the importance of Hong Kong in the Asia & Middle East Region especially after the handover 10 years ago. The election result further illustrates Hong Kong's position as an international city and our presence in the RICS international organisation continues despite the handover.

Mr. David Tse, the Chairman of RICS HK and the newly elected Governing Councillor, said: "I will emphasise the communications between the GC, Asia Pacific Board, China Board as well as Hong Kong Board, with a view of maximising the synergy created by the global networking of RICS members'.

Mr Kenneth Chan, being re-elected again this year, says "It is an honour for me to be re-elected again as the Governing Councillor and be able to serve in the Asia and Middle East Region. By taking the roles as the voice and channel for the region, I hope I could help put forward the direction and strategy for RICS into realisation and application for better corporate development."
