HONG KONG, April 8 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- RICS (The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors) officially announced today the launch of its Regulations regime in Hong Kong.

RICS Hong Kong will take a proactive approach and invite RICS members and Hong Kong firms to register for Regulation together with an education program for the public and members about the benefits of this new regime. Together with the launch of an official website ( http://www.ricsasia.org/regulation ) in April 2009, firms in Hong Kong can register online as a regulated firm of RICS. Surveying firms in Hong Kong will receive information by mail about this new regulation regime and be invited to register with RICS. Details have been uploaded to the website where the public can easily obtain updated information concerning RICS Regulation.

Ms Diane Telford, Director of Regulation Operations, RICS, says "Firms in Hong Kong will soon have the opportunity to demonstrate that they are using high levels of professional and ethical standards in their business by becoming regulated by RICS. Regulated firms can take advantage of the benefits of clear and simple, principles-based regulation. The regulated firms will be easily recognised by the 'Regulated by RICS' designation and the RICS logo they will be able to use on their business stationery and publicity material, thereby giving them a competitive edge in the market."

Mr Darren Jensen, Director of RICS Asia, says, "One of RICS' key roles is to protect the public through effective regulation of our members and member firms. RICS Regulation is responsible for ensuring that RICS members and firms meet the requirements of RICS' Rules of Conduct. These define the professional, ethical and business standards which are expected of RICS members and firms. We recently employed a member of staff based in Hong Kong as part of the Regulation Department and we hope to see a streamlined system established and further developed in Hong Kong to reinforce the highest ethical standards and professionalism among our members and firms. We see this operation eventually be extended to other parts of Asia to support members and the public in across the region."
