-- Top SCADA Security Experts from Around the Globe Share the Latest Techniques for Protecting Industrial Control Systems and Critical Infrastructure

SINGAPORE, Sept. 30, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- To help security professionals better understand and defend against SCADA and control system threats, SANS Institute will host the Asia Pacific ICS Security Summit and Training in Singapore this December. During 2-3 December 2013, Summit attendees will hear from top SCADA experts, key government personnel, researchers and asset owners about the latest techniques for protecting against these attacks. With in-depth, hands-on post technical courses 4-8 December.

According to SANS Faculty Fellow and Instructor of the brand new ICS410: ICS/SCADA Security Essentials Course, Dr. Eric Cole, "To protect industrial control and automation systems from cyber security threats, it is essential security professionals stay current on the latest threats. SANS ICS Security Summit and Training series brings together top SCADA security experts from around the world to gain the most current information on threats and how best to defend against them."

During the ICS410 course, one of many topics offered during the training, Dr. Cole will provide a standardized foundational set of skills, knowledge and abilities for industrial cyber security professionals. This course is designed to ensure that the workforce involved in supporting and defending industrial control systems is trained to perform work in a manner that will keep the operational environment safe, secure and resilient against current and emerging cyber threats.

Summit attendees will also have an opportunity to learn more about the recently introduced Global Industrial Cyber Security Professional Certification, a new certification focusing on the foundational knowledge that professionals securing critical infrastructure assets should have to protect their environment. Holders of the GICSP will demonstrate a globally recognized level of competence that defines the architecture, design, management, risk and controls that assure the security of critical infrastructure. The GICSP is the "bridge" to bring together IT, engineering and cyber security professionals to achieve security for ICS from design through retirement and is expected to be adopted on a global basis as a gateway certification for critical infrastructure-industrial control system professionals.

More than 1,200 security analysts and process control engineers from government and industry have already attended ICS Security Summits worldwide. SANS' ICS Summits serve as the one place where the people shaping the future of control systems security come together to share the lessons they have learned.
