"Sae-A strives to be a beneficial member of the communities in which it works," said Sae-A's Chairman Woong-Ki Kim. "Through the medical mission we are able to provide primary health care services, disease screening, and health education for adults and children in the communities around the Caracol Industrial Park. We are proud to work with partners from Korea, the United States and Haiti who are committed to the well-being of our neighbors."

This year's team included 25 medical professionals from three countries the United States, South Korea, and Haiti. The medical providers spent the week treating local residents, including Sae-A employees and students, in space provided by the Sae-A supported, S&H Secondary School. To ensure access to these services to those who need it most, Sae-A provided transportation for local area residents.

The medical team included specialists from pediatrics, obstetrics, otolaryngology, urology, pain management, ophthalmology, internal medicine and family medicine. In addition to screening for illnesses, expectant mothers and children were given health examinations and provided with health education materials ranging from disease prevention to tips for good hygiene and nutrition.

This year marked the launch of a study led by the George Washington University School of Nursing on the prevalence and causes of anemia in the community. The study will provide critical insight into how best to tackle and reduce the prevalence of anemia.  The researchers will present the community with a plan and strategy of how best to lessen the impact of anemia.  As part of the screening process, those diagnosed as anemic will receive immediate medical intervention, including iron supplements.

About Sae-A's Community Engagement in Haiti

Since beginning its operations in Haiti in 2012, Sae-A has worked hard to be a partner to the community.  Within a year of establishing its first factory, Sae-A built and runs the S&H Primary School serving students from kindergarten through sixth grade. Early in 2017, Sae-A opened the S&H Secondary School allowing children to receive the same high-quality education through high school graduation. The schools provide best-in-class education to more than 450 local students, including children of the company's employees. At the end of the school day, after classes are over, the facilities serve as a community center for local residents. They host a range of events and provide educational opportunities for adults.

Sae-A has also been a valued partner in disaster response. Most recently, in the wake of Hurricane Matthew, the company donated emergency relief goods and medical supplies to the Government of Haiti.
