During Boao Forum for Asia 2008, it was the greatest honor for Sheraton Sanya Resort to have Chinese President Hu Jintao stay at the Resort. During his stay, President Hu Jintao had state-level reception to welcome the King of Tonga Republic, Pakistani President, Tanzanian President and President of Chile. In the Seven Seas Ballroom of the Resort, President Hu Jintao held talks with the President of Sri Lanka, the Kazakh Prime Minister, the Mongolian President, the Prime Minister of Australia and the Qatari Prime Minister. On 11 April, President Hu Jintao hosted a state banquet in the Seven Seas Ballroom for all invited state guests.
This was the first time in Chinese history that the President held such state-level reception out of capital Beijing. It was regarded as a 'diplomatic innovation' by the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
