FECYT brings The New Face of Research - the New ISI Web of Knowledge - to Researchers at More Than 790 Institutions Throughout the Country

PHILADELPHIA and LONDON, Sept. 19 /Xinhua-PRNewswire-FirstCall/ --

Thomson Scientific, part of The Thomson Corporation (NYSE: TOC; TSX: TOC) and leading provider of information solutions to the worldwide research and business communities, announced today that Spain's La Fundacion Espanola para la Ciencia y la Tecnologia (FECYT) has renewed its contract with Thomson Scientific to provide the nations' researchers access to The New Face of Research -- the new version of ISI Web of Knowledge(SM) -- through 2011.

With this renewal, FECYT's users will be among the first in the world to experience The New Face of Research. Also for the first time, FECYT users will access Century of Science(TM), an expansion of the ISI Web of Knowledge that showcases the most important scientific bibliographic and cited-reference data beginning in 1900.

"The New Face of Research is not just another upgrade, and it's definitely more than just a new look," said Keith MacGregor, executive vice president of Thomson Scientific's Academic & Government Strategic Business Unit. "It is a completely new approach to research and a testament to Thomson Scientific's commitment to innovation. We are pleased that we will continue to provide our world-class platform to those leading the growth of Spain's research."

FECYT brings ISI Web of Knowledge access to users at 790 institutions throughout Spain. In 2006 alone, FECYT users searched the ISI Web of Knowledge database more than 6.2 million times.

In June, MacGregor and the Thomson Scientific team introduced FECYT to The New Face of Research at "Jornada anual de presentacion de resultados de la Web of Knowledge," FECYT's annual day devoted to teaching its users about Web of Knowledge. More than 100 information specialists, librarians and government officials, representative of many roles within Spain's research system, attended the FECYT event.

"The solutions we offer are very much in line with FECYT's research goals," MacGregor told attendees. "And we're confident that The New Face of Research will help FECYT maximize your investment in us and further your goal of increasing scientific productivity."

ISI Web of Knowledge, an integrated, versatile research platform, delivers easy access to high quality, diversified scholarly information in the sciences, social sciences, and arts and humanities, as well as search, analysis and management tools. The platform provides users the ability to search the right content and find relevant information -- whether that information is found in international journals, open access resources, books, patents, proceedings or Web sites.
