State Grid Chairman Liu Zhenya Held Talks With Georg Kell, Executive Director of United Nations Global Compact and Other United Nations Officials

NEW YORK, June 24, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Chairman of State Grid, LIU Zhenya held talks with executive director of United Nations Global Compact, Georg Kell, representative from the office of the United Nations General, Wu Hongbo, and the French ambassador to the United Nations, Francois Delattre, and reached an important consensus on jointly promoting the development of a global energy interconnection yesterday.

During the talks, LIU Zhenya outlined the progress State Grid has been making in the development of ultra-high voltage (UHV) technology and projects, smart grid and international business, as well as his strategic vision of building a global energy interconnection. Liu highlighted that a global energy interconnection should be a strong and smart network that utilizes ultra-high voltage transmission lines to transport clean energy globally. Through such a network, we can effectively reduce pollution and tackle climate change related issues. Liu expressed his desire for United Nations' support and involvement in this global initiative that could greatly benefit people's wellbeing.

Kell and the others fully recognized the achievements of State Grid in areas such as UHV, and expressed deep appreciation for the conception of building a global energy interconnection. They believe a global energy interconnection could be a feasible solution to global climate change, which would benefit many generations to come. Building a global energy interconnection is in line with United Nations' mission - maintaining international peace and development. They also expressed their appreciation for the sense of responsibility demonstrated by State Grid and Liu.
