Shipments Smoothly Increased YOY while Smartphones Shipment Up 38% MOM
Smartphones Sales and China Business Will Be the Growth Highlights in 2H 2011
HONG KONG, Oct. 10, 2011 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- TCL Communication Technology Holdings Limited ("TCL Communication" or the "Company", together with its subsidiaries referred to as the "Group"; HKSE stock code: 02618) today announced the unaudited shipment figures for its handsets and other products in September and the first nine months of 2011.
In September 2011, the Group's handsets and other products sales totaled 3,789,393 units, up 6% from the corresponding period in 2010, which included the sales of smartphones accounted for 198,104 units, up 38% compared to the last month. Meanwhile, 3,286,336 units were sold in overseas markets, remains stable as compared to last year, and 503,057 units were sold in the PRC, representing a year-on-year increase of 159%. For the first nine months of 2011, the cumulative sales volume of handsets and other products rose 28% year-on-year to 30,457,702 units, with 27,463,971 units sold in overseas markets, representing an increase of 25%.
Even though the purchasing power of consumers in some markets have been affected due to the downturn of the global economy, the Group sustained growth momentum of the Group's handsets and other products, which was mainly attributable to the Group's successful geographical expansion into new markets, including high-potential markets, along with the success of the Group's "Step-up" product strategy and brand building efforts, which achieved a good result in sales and operational performance.
The Group expects that the business in China and the sales volume of smartphones will be the major growth drivers in the second half of this year. Thanks to the Group's efforts in enhancing market penetration in China, launching more suitable products for local consumers, expanding distribution network and strengthening of partnership with three major telecommunication operators in China, the Group achieved remarkable breakthrough in both sales and gross profit in the China market. In addition, the sales of smartphones had maintained its growth momentum, with sales volume up 38% in the single month of September. With the Group's on-going effort in product-mix optimization and development of higher-margin smartphones with advanced features, it is expected that the overall products sales and ASP will further rise. The Group is confident that the sales of smartphones will achieve a breakthrough in 2012.
The Group's excellent design capabilities and its role in the development of China's telecommunications industry were given recognition as it won several industry awards in the past month. On 18 September 2011, the Group won the "China Telecommunication Industry Enterprise Leadership" award at the "China Telecommunication Forum 2011". TCL A990 also won the "China Smartphones Outstanding Award 2011", demonstrating that the Group's products are widely recognized by consumers. Meanwhile, Dr. Guo Aiping, Chief Executive Officer of TCL Communication, was awarded as "Outstanding People Devoted in the Development of Telecommunications Industry in China".
