TUV Rheinland to provide the full system Independent Safety Assessment (ISA) for Macau Light Rapid Transit (LRT)

MACAU, Dec. 13, 2011 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- TUV Rheinland has recently been appointed by Macau Special Administrative Region, Gabinete para as Infra-estruturas de Transportes (GIT), to provide the full system Independent Safety Assessment (ISA) service for Phase 1 of the Macau Light Rapid Transit (LRT), the first railway system in Macau SAR, China.

TUV Rheinland will provide the ISA service for the entire Fully Automatic Operations (FAO) railway system of Macau LRT Phase 1 in accordance with CENELEC standards. The assessment covers all E&M systems, including signalling, rolling stock, the Operational Control Centre and Communication, and the Sai Van Bridge improvement work.

The project involves the construction of one LRT line, most of which is elevated and runs from the Border Gate in the North of Macau peninsula close to the town of Zhuhai (Mainland China) to Macau International Airport and Pac On Ferry Terminal on Taipa Island. The future LRT will go via the Macau ferry terminal and the Sai Van Bridge and will lead to major Macau hotels and casinos. The line is underground (tunnel, 2 underground stations) between Nam Van Lake and the Sai Van Bridge. Phase 1 of the line is about 21 km long and has 21 stations.

TUV Rheinland will perform all of the necessary assessments and audits to provide independent opinion on whether the safety requirements have been fulfilled for the Rolling Stock & Systems supplied by the System Contractor, and the system is developed through a robust engineering safety management process for the entire project lifecycle in accordance with the specified EN standards and the relevant local regulations.
