Upgradeability of Telairity HD & SD Systems Makes Switching from H.264 to AVS as Simple as a Download

BEIJING, March 22 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- Telairity customers in the People's Republic of China will soon be able to convert any Telairity 8000 Series broadcast-quality hardware-based HD encoder from H.264 encoding technology to China's advanced Audio Visual Standard (AVS) encoding through a free downloadable conversion package from the Telairity website.

The announcement was made today by Ben Silva, Telairity Senior VP of Worldwide Sales and Business Development. Telairity products, including an HD model running the AVS codec, will be on display this week at CCBN 2010, being held at the China International Exhibition Center (CIEC). The Telairity booth is located in Hall 6, Number 6403. Telairity is a global leader in encoding technology.

The fully automated H.264 to AVS conversion package will require little more than a few keystrokes to install. Converting a system back to H.264/AVC will be equally simple. There is no restriction on how many times a system can switch between these encoding technologies. The package will be available on line in a few weeks.

The AVS codec is a Chinese government initiative, proposed as a future national standard in 2004 and is comparable to the H.264/AVC standard. Because 90 percent of the patents used in AVS are owned by Chinese companies, AVS is much less expensive for Chinese companies to license than H.264/AVC.

"Our customers in the People's Republic of China will find free, unrestricted upgrades from AVC-to-AVS and vice-versa both a simple and elegant solution to extending the use of Telairity 8000 series encoders in their country," said Silva. "Telairity's top-to-bottom ownership of all the key technologies needed for encoding, including our exclusive 50 GigaOps TVP2000 video processor, makes us unique among focused encoder companies. This technology leadership lets us build the most flexible, most customizable, and most advanced compression systems on the planet.

"We believe our ability to offer customers in China a simple, free AVC-AVS upgrade path is yet another striking testament to the value of owning our own encoding technology."
