MRTS Technology Provides End-to-End Data Transmission With Unparalleled Performance

MILFORD, Conn., Jan. 22 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- Thinklogical, a leading provider of fiber optic KVM switching and extension solutions, recently filed for patent protection for its revolutionary Multi Rate Transmission System (MRTS) technology, which will further advance its high performance video and KVM product lines. This unique optic platform enables multiple data streams to be transmitted long distance, over single or multiple fibers, with complete reconstruction of the data clock at the destination end point. The result is perfect synchronization with each transmitted stream. Thinklogical also announced today that this technology has been deployed in its newest product lines, the VelocityKVM and the Camera Fiber-Link series.

Previous optic technologies were unable to successfully maintain digital video and peripheral signals over distance. The new MRTS technology has the ability to transport every frame of a 1920 x 1200 @ 60Hz (or higher) video stream with no compression, along with all desktop peripherals (keyboard, mouse, including 480Mbps USB 2.0 or FireWire 800) with no perceptible latency. Moreover, these signals can be transmitted distances from just a few meters up to 40 kilometers over single-mode or multi-mode fibers.

"This technology has many applications especially in the broadcast and post-production arena, where real-time collaboration applications are in place and eliminating dropped frames and latency is of paramount importance. In addition, large command and control centers, universities, large scale digital signage and other commercial fiber optic KVM applications will benefit greatly by this new technology since it allows for traditional AV implementations and video routing to be incorporated into the same switch fabric," stated Peter Henderson, VP of New Business Development. "Ultimately, MRTS technology provides greater value, flexibility, performance and security. It is truly unlike any other technology known, especially those that are network based, such as IP, or any known KVM or video extension solution, over copper or fiber."

From inception, the MRTS technology was designed to be deployed in Thinklogical's newest product line the VelocityKVM. This KVM extension system, comprised of a transmitter and receiver, was developed with SFP+ modules along with single fiber capability, with no galvanic connection between source and destination. This assures isolation, security and optimal video and peripheral performance with the elimination of skew related artifacts which are typically found with multi-thread systems. Additional unique capabilities include the ability to support 6.25 Gbps bandwidth per stream, approximately 50 to 100% higher than the nearest competitor (typically 1.485 Gbps to 3.2 Gbps). This is significant primarily because a single DVI stream requires a 5.4 Gbps data rate to accommodate the 165 MHz of video data. The difference is generally manifested in either dropped frames or lower resolution associated with compressing schemes.

"MRTS is a highly reliable technology and delivers powerful benefits to our customers when combined with our new SFP+ optics. To date Thinklogical has two major broadcast networks currently using products powered with MRTS technology and it has been met with great success," comments Kevin Keefe, Director of Engineering. "Now that the technological underpinnings are in place we are taking giant steps towards addressing core challenges associated with high performance DVI and HD video, and KVM applications. We are pleased to be the only provider to offer this unprecedented technological solution."
