HONG KONG, July 11 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- A two-day "Construction Industry Mega Fun Day cum 2010 Hong Kong Youth Skills Competition" organized by the Construction Industry Council (CIC) ended today with more than 1,000 people attending over the weekend.
In addition to game booths, competitions, performances and exhibitions, CIC specially set up two booths for money donation to "Construction Caring Charity Fund" through a charity sale and tile drawing. By donating an amount of HK$20 or more, participants can draw heart shapes on the tiles that will be placed on the wall of a training centre afterwards. Over the two days, CIC has collected a total donation amount of $15,223.50, of which 100% of the proceeds will go to "Construction Caring Charity Fund".
Mr. Charles Wong Doon-yee, Director (Training) of Construction Industry Council says,"We are pleased to see the tremendous support from the industry, public and our colleagues. By donating the proceeds of charity sale and tile drawing to "Construction Caring Charity Fund", we hope to express our sincere care to construction workers and offer help to the families of those workers who passed away on the job and are going through financial troubles."
At the "Freshman Station", numerous students and parents expressed interest towards the courses offered at CIC training centres. There were 231 students who applied and received on-the-spot interviews for the courses over the 2 days. With the launch of Enhancement of Construction Employment Training Scheme by Development Bureau, CIC provides trainees maximum of HK$5,000 subsidy per month during training. Added to that, CIC also help graduates to look for a job and make sure their first 6 months of income will not be less than $8,000 per month, and not be less than $10,000 for the 6 months after that. Many students thought the scheme is a good incentive to apply for CIC courses and enter in the construction work field.
Mr. Charles Wong Doon-yee, Director (Training) of Construction Industry Council further expresses his views on this event, "The aim of this mega fun event is to raise public interest and understanding in infrastructure projects and construction industry in Hong Kong through a series of interesting yet educative activities. I am delighted at the good turnout rate, and hope this event can encourage more youngsters to join this industry."
