BEIJING, December 5, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- During his visit to Beijing, U.S. Vice President Joe Biden this morning addressed members of the American Chamber of Commerce in China at a breakfast meeting of American business leaders. During his speech, Biden touched on many areas of the U.S.-China relationship.
"I believe that the shared prosperity that you helped create is part of the glue that will hold together this relationship," Biden told the assembled American business leaders at the St. Regis Beijing hotel. "I wish you all a great deal of luck, because your success strengthens the entire relationship. If we get this relationship right, together China and America, the region and the world, will be better off for it."
AmCham China Chairman Gregory Gilligan said after the breakfast, "High-level dialog between the U.S. and China is crucial to improving relations, so we are very encouraged by the vice president's visit to Beijing. We believe there are numerous opportunities for companies in both countries to benefit from greater cooperation, in particular through open investment policies and transparent regulatory frameworks."
AmCham China has expressed its hope that, during his talks with senior Chinese officials, Biden will urge China to join the Trade in Services Agreement and show stronger leadership in the Information Technology Agreement, as well as promote Chinese investment in the U.S.
