Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) and National Instruments (NI) announced their collaboration in advancing engineering and robotics education. Both parties formalised the partnership by inking a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) at the Agrotechnology Research Station, UniMAP campus.
Under the partnership, five training laboratories will be equipped with NI hardware and LabVIEW, industry-leading graphical programming software. Students attending classes in the following laboratories will have hands-on experience with industry-leading tools: Agrotonics Engineering (ATE), Mobile Radio and Propagation (MRPRO), Bio-inspired Mobile Olfaction and Robotics (B-MOR), Sensors Instrumentations and Applications (SINAP), and Wireless Sensor and Actuator Network (WSAN).
UniMAP is represented by Vice Chancellor, Brig Jen Dato' Prof Dr Kamarudin Hussin and NI is represented by Scott Rust, Vice President of R&D, of National Instruments, Penang.
Commenting on the collaboration, Professor Dr Kamarudin, UniMAP Vice-Chancellor says: "We are a proud partner of National Instruments in driving excellence in Engineering education. Our reputation as a premier institution of learning for engineering courses is firmly grounded, and we constantly strive to teach better and prepare our students for real-world challenges and industry requirements."
UniMAP is Malaysia's 17th public institution of higher learning. It was originally known as Kolej Universiti Kejuruteraa Utara Malaysia (KUKUM), or Northern Malaysia University College of Engineering. It offers an extensive undergraduate Engineering portfolio, as well as programmes on International Business, Engineering Entrepreneurship, and Masters in Engineering Management.
Beside that, Scott Rust, Vice President of R&D, of National Instruments Penang, says, "Our partnership with UniMAP demonstrates our steadfast commitment to the research and academic community, as well to the economic progress of Penang, Malaysia".
The construction of NI's world-class R&D and operations facility in Penang is currently in full swing. It is set to spur economic activity in the high-technology sector and create jobs for at least 1,500 people over the next 10 years.
