BEIJING, Dec. 3 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- Youku, the leading Chinese Internet video website, announced today the launch of Youku News Channel, an online platform for syndicating professional video news content from Youku’s media partners and also featuring user-generated video news on what is making national headlines.

"With a focus on online syndication and interactivity, Youku News Channel will be a bridge connecting the traditional media and Internet users," said Zhu Xiangyang, Youku’s Chief Editor. "Our primary goal is to build a mainstream and socially responsible news platform with timely news video content for the millions of users visiting Youku every day."

Youku has already established partnerships with 268 media companies and organizations, including film studios, television production companies, music record labels, and most importantly, 28 national and provincial television networks in China. These partners include leading Chinese media groups like Beijing Television (BTV), Shanghai Media Group (SMG), Nanfang Media Group, and Xinhua News Agency.

With the support from its large user base, Youku has played an important role in helping Chinese Internet users to record and share videos of important events that happened in China this year. During the snowstorm in China, Olympic torch relay, and the Sichuan earthquake, Chinese television networks picked Youku as their source for first-hand video materials uploaded by its users.

"The Youku News Channel is based on the strong foundation we have built since our website’s launch. Our nationwide TV partner network and reputation for time sensitive video content has make Youku the online video platform of choice in this area. Watching news-related videos online has become increasingly mainstream for Internet users in China," said Victor Koo, Founder and CEO of Youku.
