The company contributed optical fiber, network components and hardware for the USA Pavilion and is part of the broader telecommunications infrastructure that is helping to keep Expo connected. Corning's LANscape(R) Pretium EDGETM Solutions have been deployed along the World Expo Axis providing a high-efficient network, an intelligent control system and security. In the Performance Center, Corning technology is enabling a structured distribution system for the transmission and exchange of voice, data, images and information that meets the Center's requirements for large-scale performance capability and all-weather operation.

Green Technologies for Future Cities

Visitors to the City Future Pavilion can experience what life may be like in the future in the exhibition areas of Intelligent House, Healthy Community and Low Carbon Cities.

In the Intelligent House display Corning is demonstrating its work to accelerate the use of eco-friendly solar energy through its photovoltaic glass technology. Corning's strength in developing and manufacturing LCD glass substrates, combined with expertise in materials science and light management, are enabling the development of thin-film photovoltaic solutions for solar energy applications.

Corning is focused on developing a thin, durable glass substrate or superstrate that will enable lighter weight photovoltaic modules with increased photon-to-electron conversion efficiency.

In Low Carbon Cities Corning is displaying the diesel particulate filter that is widely used by global motor vehicle manufacturers. Corning's filters and substrates are used to help control the emissions of gasoline and diesel vehicles, significantly improving the quality of the environment. Also on display in this area is Corning's on-going glass research, focusing on greater flexibility, strength and durability.

In the Healthy Community section Corning is displaying its Corning Epic(R) system, a high-throughput label-free screening platform that performs both biochemical and cell-based drug discovery applications based on optical biosensor technology.
